Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a brand new 126 bed inpatient psychiatric hospital opening in the summer of 2018. The facility is a joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services.

Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine (LG Health/Penn Medicine), a member of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine), is a 631-licensed bed not-for-profit health system with a comprehensive network of care encompassing Lancaster General Hospital (LGH), Women & Babies Hospital and the Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital (in partnership with Kindred Healthcare). Our membership in Penn Medicine brings together the strengths of a world-renowned, not-for-profit academic medical center and a nationally recognized, not-for-profit community healthcare system.

Outpatient services are provided at the Downtown Outpatient and Suburban Outpatient Pavilions, along with additional outpatient centers and Express and Urgent Care locations throughout the region. We are seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) who will support our values and vision. The CNO functions as the chief nursing executive and has a 24 hour/7 days a week responsibility for nursing care provided by the facility. This individual serves as a key member of our hospital executive team and participates in the facility’s decision making structures and processes. The CNO promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy and values of LBHH and the ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care.

Essential functions include:

  • Positions the hospital for success with the smooth and efficient nursing operations of the hospital, improving performance and care outcomes.

  • Leads a nursing team to drive quality patient experience across the continuum.

  • Collaborates with the other members of the Executive team

  • Develops, recommends and implements policies, procedures and models to improve the delivery of evidence based patient care and services.

  • Creates and leads the strategies and initiatives that enhance staff engagement and patient perception of care by employing our core values by creating and maintaining a professional work environment that supports the well-being and development of staff.

  • Supports and operationalizes indicatives related to strength based interactions, trauma informed care and recovery oriented services

  • Develops and oversees nursing student rotations

  • Participates in developing, justifying and controlling the annual budget

  • Promotion and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic milieu.

  • Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.




Job Requirements

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required. Masters of Science in Nursing required.

  • Experience:  Five (5) years’ experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a psychiatric health care facility. Five (5) years management experience required, preferably in a psychiatric/mental health field.
  • Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed to practice by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Successful completion of CPR certification.
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.
  • Additional requirements: A strong knowledge of TJC, CMS, OSHA and state regulations, patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
