Job Description

Poplar Springs Hospital, a 183 bed acute care and residential facility, is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. Situated on 25 acres, our serene, nature-like setting offers our patients a sense of calmness and peace. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military.

The candidate selected will be responsible and accountable for:

Thoroughly develop contacts, assists in development of a positive image of the hospital in the local, medical and allied health communities, in order to enhance admissions. May coordinate with clinical and teaching staff to produce brochures, fact sheets and other mental health information. May conduct or coordinate hospital tours, survey public opinion, host and coordinate special events such as speakers or seminars, or coordinate and participate in community health and other events. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work/Psychology/related healthcare field or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Marketing /related business development field required.
  • Licensed RN/LPN may be substituted for Bachelor’s requirement.
  • Previous experience in mental health field and/or marketing/sales preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to make a positive impression on community professions, as 95% of day is spent working with and around others; ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of hospital staffing, programs, therapies, and milieu and be able to explain these to contacts; self-direction and initiative, as work is variable; a professional standard of appearance; ability to adapt to differing management styles; a team attitude and effort.

Location - Southwest, VA

  • Works in an assigned territory/region developing contacts and promoting hospital programs.
  • This role requires frequent travel away from the facility with regular overnight stays.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Involved with patients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, referral sources, etc.
  • Communicates effectively with all hospital staff.
  • Maintains liaison with other department staff and supervisors to adequately plan for clinical services/activities and department needs and services.
