Job Details

This position will be responsible for the development and application of data analysis and mining approaches to inform target, compound, species and biomarker identification and aid in the understanding of nonclinical and clinical safety signals. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing integrative analyses relating molecular entities and in vitro/in vivo/clinical biological activities in a computational and quantitative way to deliver testable hypotheses in high quality presentations/publications. The ideal candidate will have experience with database development and management, RNAseq data analysis, and statistical/machine learning techniques. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills required for productive collaborations across DSRD, Partner Lines and Research Units.







**Role Responsibilities**







+ Develop database infrastructure and analysis pipelines for efficient integration and analysis of mixed data types (e.g., chemical and biological descriptors, in vitro and in vivo endpoints, internal and external data sources)



+ Perform computational analyses and deliver testable hypotheses/insights from complex multi-dimensional data to inform target/compound selection, biomarker identification and aid in the understanding of nonclinical and clinical safety signals



+ Identify and validate innovative approaches to improve the quality and efficiency of hypothesis generation from experimental data



+ Maintain current awareness of emerging approaches and methods in computational biology and provide ad hoc support to DSRD colleagues and project teams



+ Management and analysis of RNAseq experimental data



+ Analysis of in vitro screening results and design of follow-up experiments



+ Generation of computational models for compound safety



+ Mining and curation of compound, SAR, nonclinical and clinical in vivo databases



+ Participation in global modeling consortia



+ Effectively and efficiently collaborates with data analysis and computational colleagues in DSRD and WRD.



+ Represents DSRD on relevant teams, providing scientific guidance of projects.







**Qualifications**







+ Master's with highly relevant experience (5+ years) and/or PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Biology or related disciplines, with relevant experience applying computational approaches to solve biological problems, ideally in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or comparable setting.



+ In depth knowledge of relevant public and proprietary databases, methods and tools.



+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with an ability to effectively interface with biologists and toxicologists to communicate/discuss results, ideas and follow-up experiments







Highly Desired:







+ Experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Machine Learning, Statistics, Database Management and Administration



+ Fluency in one of more programming languages (particular emphasis on R and SQL)



+ Specific experience performing RNAseq data analysis



+ Experience in delivering insights/hypotheses from complex multi-dimensional biologic data in a biomedical context.



+ Experience and expertise in the analysis and visualization of high dimensional data.



+ Experience applying computational approaches to deliver insights/hypotheses from chemical structures, in vitro data and nonclinical/clinical in vivo endpoints



+ Experience in sound experimental design for in silico experimentation and workflow.
