Job Scope:

This position provides leadership and direction for the financial activities of the location and is responsible for the management of the Financial Controls and Administration, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Credit, Financing, and Internal Controls.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly financial statement and present to General Manager and management team

• Manage monthly close process including journal entries and accrual analysis

• Reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts monthly, resolve issues timely, and submit package for compliance review quarterly

• Monitors and manages the location’s records and reports in compliance with established accounting policies and procedures (GAAP), including the reconciliation of sales and receivables reports

• Distributes the reports to location and Corporate management

• Prepare, review, and present quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long term plan

• Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities and procedures relating to financial management, forecast, budget, and accounting

• Maintain an accounting system with a qualified staff to effectively direct the various financial, accounting and reporting responsibilities while providing an adequate level of control to safeguard the assets of the Auction

• Manage the Auction’s accounts, records, and reports in compliance with established accounting policies and procedures, including the accuracy and timeliness of reconciliation of all accounts such as weekly sales and receivables report for distribution to Auction and Corporate management

• Build strong relationships with other areas of the auction in order to provide business leadership and partnering with areas such as recon, collections, front office, operations, transportation, and administrative

• Prepare reports to summarize and forecast Auction business activity and financial positions in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations and sales

• Manage month-end close process to ensure accuracy and timeliness and within the 3 day timeline

• Provide mentoring for all managers to promote understanding of finance and the impact their areas have on auction results

• Work hand in hand with other department managers to ensure all internal controls are adhered to and financial statements are fairly and accurately presented

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of accounting systems and assist internal and external auditors in performing reviews and audits of accounting records

• Maintain and develop accounting staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, counseling and disciplining employees as necessary

• Plan, monitor and evaluate job performance, and conduct performance appraisals

• Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such

• Work in cooperation with safety leadership in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence

• Review work volumes, plan and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service

• Review departmental performance against key performance indicators and metrics and develop and execute strategies for improvement

• Ensures location accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting




• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance or related field

• CPA certification or MBA preferred

• Minimum of 10 years’ of accounting experience preferred in positions with increasing responsibilities required

• Controller experience preferred

• Experience in the automobile or Auction industry desirable

• Experience with Oracle, Hyperion, and Microsoft Office preferred

• Strong leadership, communication, and interaction skills required

• Effective and competent management, accounting, and organizational skills required

• Good computer and software knowledge essential, including Excel and Word with AS400 preferred

• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections

• Demonstrated strength in performing ad hoc analysis and short and long term budgeting and forecasting

• Strong time management skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule

• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

• Perform other duties as assigned by management
