To learn more about our programs and services, please visit our website at www.delamohospital.com. We currently have positions available for Dietary Cook at Del Amo Hospital. Del Amo Hospital is a 166-bed behavioral health facility that is located in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. The Dietary Cook under direct supervision, the Dietary Cook responsibility consists of preparing food for patients, hospital and medical staff, and maintaining the Food Services Department in a sanitary manner.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Prior to each meal service, reviews the type and quantities of meats, vegetables, salads and desserts to be prepared per menu.

  2. Plans cooking schedule in conjunction with the Director of Food Services to ensure that food will be prepared at specified times; i.e. breakfast at 7:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m., and dinner at 4:15 p.m.

  3. Ensures that modified food and special diets are properly dated and labeled.

  4. Ensures that food is properly dated and labeled at all times.

  5. Observes and tastes food being cooked and adds ingredients and seasonings to improve flavor and texture as needed.

  6. Always measures and mixes ingredients properly according to recipes.

  7. Adheres to correct serving portions.

  8. Makes appropriate substitutions with approval of supervisor.

  9. Logs all leftovers and utilizes leftovers in a creative manner.

  10. Assures that desserts are prepared for lunch/dinner meals. Able to prepare diet desserts.

 

Job Requirements

Education:        High School education diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:       Experience as a cook or cook’s helper in an institutional food service facility is required
