Schick Shadel Hospital,  is seeking a talented, compassionate, and creative Cook with excellent communication skills.  Schick Shadel Hospital, a 60 bed alcohol and substance use disorder hospital located in the outskirts of Seattle, has been providing successful chemical dependency treatment since 1935.  The hospital, which claims the "#1 Success Rate" in treating alcoholism, bases its success on its unique and powerful counter conditioning treatment program.  The hospital provides medication detoxification and an intense, short stay addiction treatment program for alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription opioids and heroin (smoked and snorted).

The Cook position is responsible for the preparation of meals and nourishments during an eight hour shift as well as helping maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, prep areas and dining room.  The Cook must be an excellent communicator since they interact extensively with hospital patients and staff members in the performance of their duties.

Job Requirements

1.         Directs the preparation of all foods specified on the daily menu.

2.         Plans cooking schedule so all menu items will be ready at the specified time.

3.         Plates meats, fish or fowl for individual servings and apportions other servings according to menu.

4.         Participates in required inservice education as well as hospital required online training.

5.         Estimates food needs for next shift or day, removes food from freezer as necessary.

6.         Directs the serving and distribution of meals to patients and employees.

7.         Performs other duties as assigned by the Dietary Supervisor, which may include menu creation, inventory control,
            food purchasing, employee scheduling, prepare event special requests, and cleaning activities.

 

Education/Experience/Licensing:

  1. High school or equivalent training preferred.

  2. Skills in interpersonal relationships.

  3. One or more years previous experience as a cook in a healthcare facility is preferred. Culinary School Graduate preferred.

  4. Must have a valid Food and Beverage Service Worker’s permit from the Seattle King County Health Department.

  5. Must have a current CPR/BLS certificate.
