Job Description

Stonington Institute began serving recovering alcoholics in 1957 as Starlight Farms, a working farm where adults in recovery were introduced to the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our main campus is located in North Stonington, CT, in its original private and peaceful rural setting, offering medical detoxification as well as residential addictions treatment for active duty and retired military service members.

Our clinic in Groton, CT, offers partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment. The clinic is conveniently located across the street from The Inn at Trails Corner, a new 180 bed dormitory-style sober community for adult men and women who attend our outpatient day treatment programs. The Inn offers overnight accommodations, full-meal service, indoor/outdoor recreation options, a workout room, and computer center for all guests.

We accept private insurance, state-funded plans and self-pay arrangements. EOE/M/F/Disability/Vet

The Cook is responsible for the safe, sanitary preparation of food and dessert items according to standard recipes.  S/He serves meals to clients, staff and visitors in a courteous manner with consideration for dietary needs.  S/He maintains and cleans assigned areas including kitchen, dining room, storage and receiving areas, providing suitable environment(s) in accordance with established policies & procedures and in a manner consistent with the philosophy of the organization.  The Cook also assists in ordering of supplies and food products, and completes weekly inventory of items. 

This is a full time position. 2 shifts available - 5:00 am - 1:30 pm; 11:30 am - 8:00 pm.


Job Requirements

High School Diploma, education in food services preferred, as is Serve-Safe Certification. Two-years experience in food services, preferably in a health care or other institutional environment. Knowledge of basic math, equipment usage, cleaning and cooking products, safety and infection control procedures.  Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, interact in person and telephonically with staff and clients in a positive manner.  Ability to work a flexible schedule. Abuility to learn and comprehend regulatory agency standards as they relate to the dietary department.  Good time management, decision making and problem solving skills are essential.
