Position Summary:

Prepare and cook meals for students/residents/employees of the facility by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of proper food preparation including receiving, storing, handling, and following recipes.
  2. Prepare and serve food in quantities according to menu, number of people to be served, and portion control.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and assure maintenance of modified diets as instructed.
  4. Use accepted techniques in handling, preparation, and serving food to clients and employees. 
  5. Receive, inspect, and properly store all supplies entering Food Service Department.
  6. Monitor all kitchen equipment and appliances for malfunctions and proper temperatures.  Report same to management.
  7. Demonstrate proper use and storage of equipment and maintain a clean environment, including utensils, floors, equipment, etc.
  8.  Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety procedures, including the use of Standard Precautions, proper storage and use of      chemicals, and properly securing the Food Service area.  Also demonstrate knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets.
  9. Complete all requested forms pertaining to Food Service area.
  10. Provide positive, professional role modeling and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS :

1.        EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months previous experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.        CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

None required.

3.        LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, technical terminologies, and assist in proposals.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

4.        MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

5.        REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

6.        PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear; and taste and smell.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

7.        WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or rage, exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-destructive behaviors.
