Prudential is seeking a Copywriter/Editor, Digital Content, within its Customer Office team. This role is based in Newark, NJ, and will be on the team managed by the VP of Digital Content, Customer Office.


We’re looking for a writing and editing talent that can make UX feel EZ and engage audiences with powerful storytelling. Writers and editors who knows when to give clear, concise direction that inspires action, but can also engage any user in a friendly conversation – even about complicated financial topics – with easy-to-understand, approachable language. Writers and editors who knows when to be nurturing and when to be direct. Writers and editors who can help us establish the unique voice for a newly formed content team in an entrepreneurial new division of Prudential Financial.


Developing a high volume of high-quality UX, web and editorial copy and content will be Job #1, and you also know how to make an email jump out of a recipient’s crowded inbox. Click-worthy subject lines and great copy are just part of a normal, fast-paced day. We expect strong conceptual thinking across all media (you might even find yourself in a few articles and video scripts) and all projects – intuitively seeing the narrative and knowing how to articulate it.


You must be able to deliver clean and powerful copy and content across multiple deadlines and initiatives, work well with others, be passionate about the smallest projects, and be driven by business outcomes and not just hosannas of colleagues who ‘love your stuff.’


Of course, since we’re a new, exciting office, rolling with the punches is a must, but so is the opportunity to build and shape a whole new way of people genuinely understanding their finances.


As you interface with Prudential leadership across our business units and Customer Office marketing, product and tech teams, you will be motivated, dynamic and passionate, someone who leads by example in our hallways and whiteboard sessions and takes feedback in stride.



What exactly is the Customer Office, you ask? We’re a growing team of marketing, technology, product and data pros who develop digitally centric customer engagement platforms with and for Prudential’s several business units including retirement/401K, group insurance, asset management, life insurance and annuities. We’re proud of our agile, startup environment and how it motivates all of us to expand our skills, test our creative boundaries, share new ideas, and ­– most importantly – have fun.


Key responsibilities:

Develop best-in-class copy and content that establishes and evokes Prudential’s style, quality and tone of voice in all digital channels (product UX, web, email, video scripts, articles and other formats) Understand our key audiences and provide guidance on the best way to engage them based on where they are in their journey (how copy and content will deepen relationships with customers and prospects and inspire action) Develop deep understanding of Prudential’s overall business objectives – the goals for the Customer Office and each of Prudential’s business units – and the ability to translate that understanding to effective copy and content development Partner with other members of the Customer Office organization to understand how copy and content is performing and use that information to refine future deliverables Drive consistency of voice across all platforms and content Collaborate with creative team on the visual expression of our content



Experience required:

  • At least 7-10 years’ experience writing/editing in deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern digital copy and content – developing narratives to build customer and prospect relationships
  • Proven ability to write, edit, and proof copy on a variety of topics across multiple content formats
  • Understanding of calls to action that will drive results in digital and subject lines and copy that will drive engagement in email
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as a process-driven mindset
  • Agency experience on a financial or tech account that required communicating in a very human, way would be fantastic!
  • Bachelor degree required, advanced degree a strong advantage
