What You’ll Do


Cisco is rapidly deploying innovative cloud-based solutions on a global basis. To support that effort, we are building a Legal team with expertise in global telecommunications, media, and data privacy regulations. The team provides regulatory guidance to our engineering units and sales leaders in order to facilitate the growth of the business around the world while ensuring regulatory compliance. The team closely monitors changes in these dynamic areas of law, adjusting strategies and compliance processes as necessary.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial regulatory attorney to join this team as Corporate Counsel.


Who You’ll Work With

This attorney will report to, and work very closely with, our Senior Director for Global Communications Regulation. In addition, this attorney will work closely with our Government Affairs office, our Privacy Legal Team and our Security & Trust Organization, to drive a comprehensive compliance regime related to telecommunications, media, and data privacy regulations. The role also entails regular contact with our Legal Department’s attorneys based around the world as well as with outside counsel with expertise in jurisdictions around the world.


Who You Are


We are particularly interested in candidates with a passion for cloud and collaboration services; an understanding of and background in these technologies; an entrepreneurial approach to legal support; experience with budgeting and contract management; strong written and oral communications skills; and experience with communications regulation and compliance.


Responsibilities include:


·     Assessing obligations and regulatory risks in jurisdictions around the world, and providing guidance to internal sales and engineering teams.

·     Preparing regulatory filings for submission in jurisdictions around the world.

·     Identifying and making recommendations about tools, processes and systems to manage and track compliance with regulatory requirements around the world.

·     Leading the team’s efforts to implement an effective and efficient knowledge management system.

·     Developing a scorecard and methodology for assessing the quality and cost of outside counsel.  

·     Driving the development of the team’s presence on internal social media sites for both lawyers and non-lawyers.

·     Providing regular reports to internal legal executives on regulatory team operations.


Desired qualifications & experience include:


·     JD, with at least three years of experience.

·     Strong communications and research skills, with a demonstrated ability to create clear and succinct written reports.

·     Background in technology, with a particular emphasis on cloud-based communications and collaboration technologies.

·     Team player and problem solver with a willingness to challenge assumptions, adapt to changes, learn new tools, and drive results for the business.

·     Experience at a global company, ideally with exposure to communications regulation, or experience at a regulatory agency.
