Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring evidence based standards exist at all UHS acute care hospitals that provide women’s services. Functioning as an advanced practice nurse/clinical specialist this individual is available to women’s services units for clinical advice, guidance, and to provide resources regarding professional and regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for leading the execution of High Reliability Units at UHS sites, in collaboration with other members of the women’s services leadership at the local facility sites. Working collaboratively with nursing executives within UHS, serves as key member of the development team for ongoing education of women’s services nurses to ensure competency with national and international standards of care.
  • Working collaboratively with the Insurance/Risk Management department, provides expertise in evaluating if current standards were maintained and optimal care provided. If opportunities for improvement exist, information and resources are provided to the local facility.
  • Links evidence based practice to improvement strategies, using metrics to measure and assess improvement, facilitates inter-disciplinary teams, and implements tools to facilitate optimal performance and provision of family/patient centered care.
  • Serves as a mentor to women’s services nursing leaders to promote excellence in clinical care and leadership.
Job Requirements

Requirements for Consideration Include:

  • Licensure: Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of employment. License to practice as a Midwife/CNS based on state regulations. Appropriate specialty certifications preferred.
  • Professional knowledge: Certified as a Midwife/CNS and certified in area of specialization as applicable. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of nursing clinical practice and management of complex environment. Extensive knowledge of principles and practices relevant to nursing and quality patient and family care activities required. Preferably demonstrates knowledge and skills sets for clinical improvement methodology for tracking and trending improvement.
  • Experience: Five or more years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting. Membership in AWHONN and other professional organizations preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills: Interpersonal skills to foster an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment. Ability to plan, direct, and implement change. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Equipment, application and tools knowledge: Demonstrated proficiency with common computer based applications such as electronic mail, word processing and various databases, whether PC, network or mainframe based. Knowledge of SharePoint software preferred.
  • Travel requirements: Frequent US travel to assess facilities. Minimum travel 50%.
