Job Description

Crisis Counselors engage with individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis.  Services provided include verbal de-escalation, crisis resolution, suicide risk assessment and prevention, referral collaboration and supportive counseling.  Crisis Counselors work closely with Police, Emergency Rooms, and Mental Health Providers.  Counselors are required to be professional, empathetic, detail oriented and support recovery.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn the mental health system and improve clinical skills while making a difference in the Centre County community.


Job Requirements

::This position requires the following:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, counseling, education or similar field.  If you do not possess a Bachelor's degree you may still meet the minimum education requirements if you possess both a High Scholl Diploma AND 12 Semester Credit Hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, or other social sciences or are an RN.
  • Experience: Six months to one year experience in human services of which must be mental health direct care experience in correlation with education according to the PA Bulleting, Vol. 23, No. 10 of March 6, 1993.
  • Possess a valid PA driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Availability to work weekend and holiday shifts as assigned on a rotational basis.
