Rivendell Behavioral Health Services is an 80-bed acute care facility located in Benton, AR, has been providing quality health care to the residents of Arkansas since 1986. Rivendell provides and array of emotional and behavioral health services for adults, children and adolescents. Our multi-disciplinary treatment approach has created an environment for healing. Rivendell currently has a recreational therapist position available. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

I. RECREATION FUNCTIONS

Assists in the inventory and ordering of appropriate recreation therapy supplies.
Maintains cleanliness & organization of supplies and areas used when conducting recreation activities.
Attends continuing education classes, seminars, workshops, & in-services pertinent to professional growth.


II. ASSESSMENT OF PATIENTS

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental tasks of children and adolescents.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental tasks of adults.
Demonstrates the ability to recognize signs and symptoms of anxiety and impending behavioral escalation.
Ability to recognize and evaluate behavior, changing levels of depression, tendencies toward self-aggressive behavior, cognitive functioning deficits, learning deficits, and patient’s capacity for self-care.
Assesses patient leisure needs & develops behavioral treatment plans. Documents assigned patient's progress on a weekly basis in a timely manner.


III. TEAMWORK

Accurate information is communicated to all members of the team as observed by the supervisor.
Works cooperatively and positively with all treatment team members as observed by the supervisor.
Is flexible and creative with job requirements and expectation as observed by supervisor.
Works in team with administrative or other professional personnel such as those engaged in medicine, social work, nursing psychology, and therapy to ensure that recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated with special services.
Establishes liaison & good relationships with all community agencies providing recreation therapy services



IV. TREAMENT DELIVERY

Establishes, initiates, organizes, and conducts the recreation therapy treatment program including leisure education, aerobics, creative expression, outdoor education, community reintegration, and special events such as birthdays, holidays & graduation parties.
Promotes the physical appearance of the unit through decorations, bulletin boards & displays of patient activities.
Completes appropriate and assigned written materials, documents and forms to assist in the organization & communication in the department. Develops a weekly schedule of planned patient activities.
Attends & participates in treatment team meetings & selected therapeutic groups when the program schedule permits.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience preferred;  and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.. (CTRS)
