Data Science Systems Architect - Telecommute (757704)

Position Description

This role will analyze, conduct PoC's, pilots, architect and present recommendations for multiple system components or applications that support Optum Payment Integrity's data science teams for analytics around DevOps, security, and component integration.  They will work across multiple business areas and with multiple technology partners to architect and secure analytic data science technology infrastructure that spans R&D to production.   The role will work closely with Data Scientists, System Administrators and Data Architects to ensure the platform meets changing business requirements and evolving portfolio strategy. 

 

The candidate is required to have a proven track record of architecting portfolio level solutions and technologies. The candidate must be a self-starter who can work in a virtual environment and perform at a high level when balancing multiple projects for our customers.  

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with multiple functional areas to understand captured business requirements to create data science solutions
  • Work hands on with technologies and mock-up designs during software evaluations, PoCs and pilots
  • Ensure integration of multiple analytic platforms to make our data science toolkit easier to work with for end users
  • Develop processes to monitor Linux/Unix system performance and resource usage
  • Develop backup, restore and mirroring strategies to ensure a highly available platform
  • Address performance and scalability issues and perform necessary capacity planning to meet new business initiatives
  • Ensure security of the environment by managing permissions and encryption strategy
  • Work closely with vendors' support through ticketing system to manage hardware/software failures, appliance upgrades and install patches
  • Identify gaps in existing process documentation, or areas where processes in development need further specification then create it
  • Deliver professional level technical work in support of the development of company products, tools, platforms and services
  • Operate within established methodologies, procedures, and guidelines
  • knowledge of principles and techniques to solve technical problems through architecture design
  • Make recommendations about platform adoption, including technology integrations, application servers, libraries, and frameworks
  • Translates highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Maintain architecture for the Data Science Workbench using configuration management tools (like Chef, Jenkis, etc.)
  • Architecting automated system build outs including automated unit testing, continuous quality and build, continuous test and delivery and monitoring of the application deployment process
  • Maintain a broad understanding of the DevOps best practices and tools including Docker, Mesos, OpenShift, GitHub, Jenkins, Chef, TFS, VS, Artifactory, Rundeck, etc.
  • Act as CI/CD project lead around systems integrations for various analytic projects
  • Lead engagements with cloud automation and orchestration tools such as OpenShift or other commercial PaaS offerings

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree
  • 5+ years of experience architecting and integrating a variety of solutions
  • 3+ years architecting security solutions as well as supporting and implementing various security requirements
  • 5+ years of experience with RHEL Linux system design and administration, scripting, programming, automation and networking
  • 2+ years of experience engineering Big Data solutions within the Hadoop or distributed ecosystems (Hadoop, HDFS, Spark, Hive, Flume, Sqoop, Oozie, Kafka, ACEs, Security)
  • 2+ years of experience managing Data Science tools and Packages (JupyterHub, Rstudio, Zeppelin, github, Nifi, Streamsets)
  • 2+ years of experience in engineering software platforms and large-scale data infrastructures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or related field
  • Master's degree
  • DevOps and related technologies like MyEclipse, TFS, VS, Cucumber, JUnit, JMeter, Liquibase, Sonarqube, Fortify, Artifactory, Rundeck, New Relic, ZDynatrace, etc.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and project management skills
  • Expertise in IT enterprise infrastructure design including datacenters, virtualization, enterprise storage, and disaster recovery/business continuity
  • Experience using Agile methodology
  • Understanding of how algorithms work as well as foundational knowledge of machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence
  • Experience with Docker, container Orchestration or micro services
  • Experience with a wide variety of open source technologies and tools
  • Exposure using cloud based providers (Azure, AWS)
  • HCISPP, CISPP, CISM, CompTIA Security, etc.
