Job Description

Reporting to the Clinical Nutrition Manager and Director of Nutritional Services, the clinical dietitian is responsible for providing daily in-patient nutritional care through screening/assessment of patients and nutrition consultation as well as carrying out nutrition education for in and out-patients of this community. Other duties may include but are not limited to policy and procedure development; inservice/competency education development for staff; daily supervision of diet office staff and functions; support department performance improvement plan; attending routine meetings and or interdisciplinary rounds, as requested by supervisor.

 

 Essential Job Duties:

Provides nutrition consultation and nutrition screening/assessment/reassessment and document in patients chart according to established policies and procedures and established practice guidelines in a timely and comprehensive manner. Assessment and plan of care are consistently appropriate for age and culturally relevant, and reflects consideration of patient’s desire for treatment.

Completes nutrition education for in and out patients according to the established policies/procedures and actively participates in community education according to the needs of the community as needed.

Develops and provides in-service education for nutrition service staff on various clinical topics relative to patient nutritional care (at both campuses) on a monthly basis.

Works effectively as a member of patient care team through effective communication and maintenance of optimal working relationship with medical/nursing staff and other disciplines as appropriate.

Attends interdisciplinary rounds, team conferences, committee meetings and other interdisciplinary functions as required and exhibit active participation and contribution on behalf of nutritional care of patients.

Participates in the development of department clinical policies and procedures, the performance improvement plan through ideas, data collection, analysis, implementation of actions and re-evaluation process.

Provide guidance to clinical nutrition related functions of diet office and staff; communicates findings/concerns with supervisor and or director.

Plans and pursues self-development through maintenance of registration status and other advance clinical specialty certifications as applicable by attending conferences/meetings/workshops as required.

Provides supervision and direction for dietetic intern staff during clinical rotation in a professional manner; and provides summary evaluation during and at end of rotation.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

Computer Skills

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Previous experience preferred.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Bachelor degree in Dietetics or related field required.

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

Registered Dietitian with the commission on dietetic registration or registry eligible as a registered dietitian (must pass exam within 3 months of hire).
