Job Description

Henderson Hospital
Henderson Hospital is a member of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals that provide care for patients throughout Southern Nevada and nearby communities. Located in the suburb of Henderson, the 120-bed hospital, which opened in 2016, offers emergency care, surgical services, including an ambulatory surgery center, cardiovascular care, women’s health and maternity services. A level II neonatal intensive care unit is slated to open by late 2017.

 

Job Description

Responsible for the nutritional care, treatment, rehabilitation and education to patients based on patient assessments of needs, conditions, impairments, disabilities and age. Duties include assessing nutritional status, developing care plans, educating patients and families, calculating nutritional and actual intakes and preparing special diets.                                                                                                                                                                                                      

 Essential Job Duties:

Performs responsibilities consistent with hospital safety policies.  
Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies to include JCAHO, OSHA, EPA, federal and state.       
Assesses patient's nutritional status by utilizing established standards and procedures and develops appropriate care plans based on nutritional risks found.  
Reviewing menus to ensure nutritional requirements are met.      
Analyzes menus for required modifications and to determine nutritional adequacy of diet records patient's response to prescribed diet therapy.    
Monitors quality of food and practices.
Develop individual patient care plans and determines if nutritional supplements are necessary.       
Calculates nutritional intakes of proteins, calories and fluids for specific disease states and patient's actual intake and makes adjustments to diets as required.             
Actively participates in recipe development, inventory, and ordering of supplies.     
Provides nutritional education for patients and families including providing pamphlets and   
Information related to patient's dietary needs and on basic nutritional requirements.            
Performs data collection for quality assurance including copying and forwarding documents and preparing technical reports.    
Participates on a multi-disciplinary committee in developing nutritional care plans ensuring compliance with established standards of care.  

Classification Specific Requirements             

Employees in positions involving patient charting and related functions, must possess competency in use of technology and computers.    
Ensures staff's compliance with policy and procedures.   
Completes all performance appraisals in a timely manner.             
Motivates and coaches staff to ensure maximum productivity/competence.             
Completes work with little or no supervision.     
Meets agreed upon deadlines or negotiates due date revisions prior to deadline.     
Ensures efficient utilization of resources.            
Coordinates unit activities in accordance with set standards.         
Makes recommendations on personnel issues.  
Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations to the department, facility.  
Effectively communicates both orally and in writing.         

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

 

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or a closely related field approved by the American Dietetic Association                                                                                                                                                

Experience: Completed a CADE-accredited supervised practice program at a healthcare facility, community agency, or a foodservice corporation, or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies. Typically, a practice program will run six to twelve months in length.                                                                                                                                           

Technical Skills: Computer proficient                                                                                                                                                   

License/Certification: Valid registration as a Registered Dietician from the American Dietetic Association (ADA). May required State licensure as required by Nevada State Law. Specialty certification (CDE, CNSD, CSP, CDR) may be required for a specialty position.                                                                                                                                             

Other: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient.
