River Oaks Hospital, located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders, River Oaks has provided quality treatment to service individuals suffering from mental illness, and/or addictive disorders. Situated on a 14 acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).

River Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Admissions and Referral/ Intake Director.  Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provides and/or coordinates the operations of the assessment and referral department 24/7;
  • Responds professionally via telephone and/or on site to each person/family in a timely manner with appropriate intervention using sound, clinical judgment. Provides immediate information and emotional support according to the individualized need(s) and within departmental and River Oaks Hospital policy. Provides additional evaluation/consultation as deemed necessary;
  • Effectively collaborates interdepartmentally to smoothly transition potential patients to alleviate anxieties in discussing treatment, financial responsibility, etc.;
  • Ability to utilize creative strategies to revise and/or develop effective policies and procedures in a patient centered culture;
  • Designs, implements and monitors quality management programs for the assessment and referral center and timely submits reports as indicated;
  • Ensures the consistent application of current departmental and River Oaks Hospital policies and procedures;
  • Completes required and ad-hoc reports in a timely manner ensuring accuracy;
  • Actively coordinates with the Human Resources Department to assess applicants and conduct interviews in a timely manner to meet needs of the department;
  • Provides constructive criticism, counseling, and commendations in a manner that encourages professional growth, maintains/increases productivity and overall retention;
  • Provides information and consultation to professionals, agencies, and the community at large to promote awareness of the assessment and referral services offered at River Oaks Hospital;
  • Adheres with and provides guidance to the department related to confidentiality and safeguards all patient and employee related information;
  • Willingly adapts to changes and demonstrates a positive attitude and flexibility in scheduling and in the performance of duties assigned to this position;
  • Exemplifies a positive, friendly and helpful attitude in daily interactions with patients, staff and visitor.



Job Requirements


  • Master’s degree;  active, unencumbered Louisiana license as an LCSW, LPC or RN (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience in crisis intervention or a psychiatric setting
  • Previous administrative and /or supervisory experience required
  • Strong community contact base and knowledge of community referral sources
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both in person and over the phone
  • Ability to set priorities and work well in a fast paced environment
