University Behavioral Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is committed to providing intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. Our mental health facility provides safe and effective inpatient treatment to assist individuals in leading more productive and fulfilling lives. The facility is located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, and includes 112 licensed beds.

Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Services provides the leadership and strategic planning of the clinical services programs offered at the facility; ensuring programs meet the needs of the community and the facility’s performance goals and objectives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the overall administrative process and management systems for all clinical services offered at the facility, promotion and maintenance of a therapeutic environment, and development and implementation of clinical treatment programs. Experience in a substance abuse treatment setting and extensive knowledge of addictions treatment required.

Essential Duties 

  • Provide clinical oversight in the delivery of mental health and substance abuse services across multiple service areas and programs.
  • Development and implementation of protocols, policy and procedures applicable to all behavioral health service staff and programs.
  • Provide assistance in (directly or indirectly) training staff in necessary protocols, diagnosis and treatment methods, and clinical intervention strategies for quality behavioral health service delivery.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to the licensed and registered intern therapists, in the management of mental health services at all levels.
  • Ensure and maintain a high level of efficiency as it relates to coordination of client/patient care, follow through on BH policies and procedures, quality and peer reviews and all aspects of the department.
  • Monitor performance criteria for staff to ensure standards and goals are met within the department.
  • Enforce and streamline new/existing program protocols, procedures and policies to effect continual improvement in processes and services to achieve maximum efficacy and best service delivery.
  • Provide coaching and hands-on supervision as needed by all behavioral health staff. Works with staff and/or immediate supervisor(s) in cases requiring corrective or disciplinary action and performance improvement planning.
  • Case conferencing directly with psychiatrics and therapists on a regular basis to ensure open and mutual collaboration on cases.
  • Maintain regular meetings and provide management reports to the Chief Executive Officer & Chief Financial Officer related to programs and staffing issues.
  • Be available for crisis intervention consultation at all program levels including other departments where clinical and other program services are delivered.
  • Promote effective communication between departments and entities, acting as a liaison to facilitate information sharing, collaborative problem solving and adequate provision of support services
  • Directly responsible for personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, terminations,  performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding privileged administrative and client information in a professional manner
Job Requirements
  • A Masters Degree in Social Work
  • Five (5) years experience working with mentally ill patients and emotionally disturbed populations, which preferable would include children, adolescents and adults
  • Two (2) years experience in clinical and administrative supervision
  • Current licensure by the State of Florida as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to maintain effective working relationships, inter-departmentally, intra-departmentally, and with the medical staff
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word is required
