Henderson Hospital
Henderson Hospital is a member of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals that provide care for patients throughout Southern Nevada and nearby communities. Located in the suburb of Henderson, the 120-bed hospital, which opened in 2016, offers emergency care, surgical services, including an ambulatory surgery center, cardiovascular care, women’s health and maternity services. A level II neonatal intensive care unit is slated to open by late 2017.

 

Job Description

Directs and manages the overall functions and professional growth of 1) Dietary/Food Services department including the cafeteria, patient food personnel, kitchen staff, support personnel; 2) Environmental Services including responsible ensuring the cleanliness of all patient care, ancillary, and public areas of the hospital; and 3) other non-clinical areas as assigned which may included, but not limited to Patient Transport, Valet, and Security.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

 Essential Job Duties:

Performs responsibilities consistent with hospital safety policies.

Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies to include TJC, OSHA, EPA, federal and state.

Establishes departmental goals in each area of responsibility.     

Formulates and establishes policies and procedures for each area of responsibility.             

Maintains and improves patient satisfaction scores according to hospital goals.     

Directs the purchasing, requisition, ordering, receipt and storage of all supplies. Coordinates with Purchasing on equipment, supplies, food, etc. Monitors contracts with suppliers.  

Directs the maintenance of all required records and compilation of reports, both technical and administrative           

Supervises all assigned personnel and students personally or through subordinates. Makes final selection of new personnel.  Conducts/documents employee training.     

Prepares annual budget for the departments. Estimates costs of goods and services. Determines manpower requirements. Prepares and submits budget reports necessary.            

Maintains employee schedules to ensure all assigned work areas are adequately covered. 

Participates in department head meetings.       

Plans, organizes, and directs food services so as to provide a patient and employee food services program involving regular and special diets, in accordance with accepted standards of sanitation and safety.  

Personally or through subordinates, formulates and establishes menus and portion sizes considering seasonality of various foods, dietary requirements, etc.          

Provides for menu variety and adjustments based on variations of census.             

Recommends and monitors quality control programs and systems through clinical specialist, dietitians and supervisors, including instruction for dietary employees in proper techniques, procedures, personal hygiene, etc.      

Establishes requirements for proper receipt, storage, and timely usage of food stuffs.         

Ensures special procedures and systems are available for the preparation, cooking, serving, and delivery of food and special diets.        

Directs and oversees special catering events for employees and administration.    

Oversees the cleaning needs of facility schedules and assigns for completion.         

Ensures cleaning exceptions are corrected in a timely manner.    

Conducts weekly quality control cleaning inspections.    

Conducts monthly Environmental Services Safety inspections.    

 

Department Specific Requirements     

Knowledge and understanding of cleaning procedures.  

Ability to work and cooperate with members of the hospital staff.             

Must be able to exert self-control in hostile situations when verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner.      

Understands proper handling of bio-hazardous waste and chemicals.        

Understands and practices infection control and isolation procedures.     

Ability to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions.              

Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in food service administration or equivalent experience                                                                                                                                            

Experience: Seven to ten years of progressively responsible food service administrative experience.                                                                                                                                                     

Technical Skills: Computer proficiency to include word processing, spreadsheets and databases.                                                                                                                                         

License/Certification: Current Clark County Health Card.  Must achieve Servesafe Certification within 90-day employment.                                                                                                                                      

Other: "Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department. 

Must meet one of the following criteria (or as otherwise defined by the State):

1.  Registered Dietitian

2.  Qualified in the field of institutional management, nutritional sciences or hotel

     restaurant management

3.  Completed an academic program in culinary arts

4.  Certified as a dietary manager by the Dietary Managers Association and has 

     additional work experience with medical and therapeutic diets."
