Job Description

::Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer: Responsibilities include assessment, planning and evaluating unit staffing, nursing care and unit management with 24 hour responsibility for total department management.  Operate within budgeted parameters for staffing, and supplies. Monitor established standards for the environment for patient care and safety. Intervene during crisis situations as necessary. Counsel and teach all nursing staff as necessary. Interpret Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures. Foster and promote open communications. Provides feedback to respective departments, directors, and/or managers in a timely manner. Promotes stability of the unit by providing clinical and administrative guidance and support. Provides leadership and direction to ED Manager and Charge RNs to ensure ongoing compliance with licensing and accreditation requirement. Leads and participates in committees, quality improvement teams and work group. Develops and implements new programs through continuing education, staff meetings, training programs, standing committees and research. Provides specialized knowledge to assist unit directors, nurse managers and clinical staff with management of difficult patient/family or clinical problems identified through the performance improvement or other process, human resource management, fiscal management and patient satisfaction. Clinical responsibilities include serving as a role model, rounds, assisting staff in the administration of nursing care if necessary. Coordinates inter and intra-departmental activities related to the clinical expertise. Leadership responsibilities include demonstrated commitment to the organization; act as a resource for patient care staff, other health team members and staff coordinators. and supports nursing leadership

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education

  1. Bachelor's degree in nursing required.  Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business or other applicable fields of study preferred.

Experience

  1. Three years of director level nursing leadership experience required, Emergency Department highly preferred. 

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:

  1. Current California Registered Nursing License.
  2. Basic Life Support certification.
  3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  4. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  5. Specialty certification in Emergency Nursing preferred
