Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 18 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center currently has an opening for a Director of Health Information Management.

This position is responsible for developing standardized facility procedures for the maintenance, storage, handling, transfer, release and destruction of resident records in accordance with state, federal, Joint Commission, CORE and other licensing and regulatory guidelines.  Oversees the operations of the medical transcription service.

Job Duties:

  1. Organizes, manages and supervises department.
  2. Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures.
  3. Prepares and maintains department budget.
  4. Contributes to performance improvement of organization.
  5. Develops quality control monitors for clinical records.
  6. Directs activities of the health information management department
  7. Organizes and plans work.
  8. Exercises judgment and decision making skills
Job Requirements

Education: High school graduate required; associate degree in medical record technology with RHIT credentials.

Experience: Three to five years of experience in medical/clinical records and two or more years of supervisory experience.  Must possess knowledge of medical records science and health care delivery; health care laws and its requirements; Joint Commission and other regulatory record requirements; Must possess knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology; statistics; operation of computer and dictation equipment, and good oral and written communication skills required; ability to type 40 wpm, operate copier.

Licensure/Certification: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required; Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
