Job Description

::The Director of Nursing has 24 hour a day seven day a week responsibility for treatment services provided for inpatient programs. The Director of Nursing promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Lakeside Behavioral Health. Prefer knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management. Exposure to mental health patients who may exhibit aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General healthcare environment.

Job Classification:          

Exempt; Hours vary based on staffing and patient needs and include day, evening, nights and weekends.

Job Requirements



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.


Education:                                          Graduate of an accredited nursing program.  BSN and/or MSN preferred.

Experience:                                        Minimum 5 years experience working in a healthcare setting or with individuals with co-occurring disorders. Minimum 3 years previous supervisory role in an inpatient psychiatric setting required.



Licensure/Certification:               Licensure and registration by Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.



Knowledge:                                       Prefer knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management.



Supervision Received:                  Chief Executive Officer


Supervision Exercised:                  Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Infection Control Nurse

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Physical agility to manage patients.  Push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.
