Job Description

Central Florida Behavioral Hospital is a 126-bed, private psychiatric center located in Orlando, FL.  Central Florida Behavioral Hospital offers a full continuum of care including inpatient treatment services for children, adolescents and adults; and partial hospitalization, intensive out-patient and ECT services for adults. 

Director of Social Services

The Director of Social Services has the overall responsibility for managing, coordinating, supervising, evaluating and implementing treatment programs and the delivery of services in an effective manner for all of the In-Patient Programs.  The Medical Director supervises the clinical aspects and responsibilities of the Director of Social Services.  The Chief Executive Officer supervises the administrative and day-to-day functions of the Director of Social Services. 

 Essential Job Duties:

  • Oversees activities directly related to the provision of the treatment programs for the hospital
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the facility treatment services departments.
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates the work activities of the Out Patient Program Manager, Lead Treatment Coordinator, Treatment Coordinators and Activity Therapists.
  • Develops and implements actions to meet financial goals, reduce costs and improve departmental efficiency and effectiveness
  • Reviews and monitors work schedules, work hours and staffing plans of the treatment services departments.
  • Establishes and implements department goals, objectives, policies and procedures, conferring with Senior Management, other Department Heads and staff members, as necessary.
  • Ensures the facility, is at all times, in compliance with licensing and regulatory agencies, covering the provision of care and treatment program systems.
  • Determines staffing requirements, interviews, hires and trains employees, manages Staff’s performance, and documents performance issues.

  • Coaches and counsels staff, when appropriate, to maintain or improve performance.
  • Develops, implements and revises, as necessary, organizational policies and procedures for the treatment services departments.
  • Develops and implements long and short-term facility projects, goals and objectives for the treatment services departments
  • Serves on facility committees and attends meetings, as assigned.

Social Work functions may include the following functions:

  • Psychosocial assessment of newly admitted patients
  • developing an update or detailed re-assessment of the patient
  • High-social risk case finding
  • Contact with family and others significant in the patient’s life
  • Patient and family education
  • Support and advocacy,
  • Provide coordination/liaison with community-based social and mental health agency(ies) regarding the pre-admission status of the patient

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • A Masters Degree in Social Work
  • Five (5) years experience working with mentally ill patients and emotionally disturbed populations, which preferable would include children, adolescents and adults
  • Two (2) years experience in clinical and administrative supervision
  • Current licensure by the State of Florida as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to maintain effective working relationships, inter-departmentally, intra-departmentally, and with the medical staff
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize, delegate and role model management of the Social Services Team 
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word is required
