Position Summary

Supervise Resident Counselors (RCs) and program logistics, including day-to-day operations of unit staffing, program scheduling and related activities for the 24 hour care of patients.  Serves as lead for multidisciplinary team on Assessment Unit.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge and judgement in the areas of diagnosis, treatment planning/intervention, and documentation.

  • Hires, trains, and supervises all Resident Counselors.

  • Conducts daily shift reports with RC staff.

  • Conducts weekly and monthly meeting with RCs as needed.

  • Coordinates program milieu.

  • Completes room checks, safety checks and client supervision checks as necessary.

  • Monitors, assesses and improves compliance with licensure requirements.

  • Ensures appropriate documenting of patient records.

  • Performs responsibilities according to clinical and timeliness guidelines, and assimilates and applies performance feedback.

  • Conducts psycho-educational groups and ensures RCs are conducting groups as scheduled.

  • Models documentation best practices by documenting all treatment episodes and patient contact.

  • Participates in the clinical treatment teams.

  • Coordinates all patient transportation.

  • Participates in Intake process in absence of Intake Counselor.

  • Performs regular inspections of patient areas, ancillary and common areas for sanitization, order, safety and comfortable environment in conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness.

  • Serves on assigned committees (i.e., safety) of the facility and provides written and/or verbal reports of residential counseling services and activities as required or directed.

  • Plans and conducts patient orientations, meetings and outings.

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate through conduct and communications the stability required to effectively assist patients and their family members through the FRN Model of Treatment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Proven leadership skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to train and develop staff skills.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, professionalism, tact and diplomacy.

  • Must be familiar with the motivational interviewing model.

  • Must have strong knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization.

  • Understands need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts.

  • Has a working knowledge of regulatory standards and laws that govern Residential treatment.

Job Requirements


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work.Master’s Degree and license/license eligible strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years in Behavioral Health field, with some Substance Abuse experience preferred.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of supervisory experience.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience with Motivational Interviewing, DBT, Trauma therapy, or other closely related modalities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Sits, stands, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 60 pounds.

  • Position requires some work on the computer requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.

  • A current, valid driver’s license is required for occasional business travel.
  • Due to the 24/7 operational demands, must be available after normal working hours and on holidays to manage emergencies that may arise, typically on a rotational basis.
