Corona Regional Medical Center is a 238-bed hospital facility on two campuses, providing comprehensive healthcare services.  It is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, employs over 1100 trained healthcare workers, and has a Medical Staff of approximately 350 physicians representing over 40 specialties.

Essential Job Duties:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Nursing Officer this position provides twenty four (24) hour responsibility and accountability for the efficient, effective operations of all aspects of Surgical, Ambulatory and G.I. Lab nursing care. This includes staff competency, departmental standards, and budgetary process. Supervises department personnel. 

Participates in Emergency Preparedness Drills.

Demonstrates through practice drills and upon request understanding of his/her role in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Responsible for development of written policies/procedures.

Ensures staff knowledge of all changes within the department.

Reviews new and revised policies/procedures and updates practice accordingly.

Demonstrates knowledge and ensures compliance with JCAHO and Title 22 standards and guidelines.

Ensures staff compliance with hospital education and certification requirements, i.e., CPR, license renewal.

Demonstrates knowledge of legal consequences of nursing actions as evidenced by monitoring of nurse notes.

Demonstrates collaborative effort with other nursing ancillary departments.

Responsible for developing monthly departmental schedules and submits per protocol. Ensures proper

Recognizes capabilities of different levels of nursing personnel. Act as a resource for RN, LVN, NA, Nursing Students and Faculty. Assists in the orientation of new nursing team members new student rotations.

Anticipates potential problem situations and intervenes to offset adverse impact.

Ensures that the department has equipment, supplies necessary to provide consistent quality patient care.

Identifies the learning needs of all staff and contributes to meeting those needs. Identifies own education needs and seeks appropriate learning experience.

Initiates the establishment, implementation and achievement of unit goals and objectives.

Follow through on all incident reports for medication errors in a timely manner.

Reports any unsafe situations or safety hazards immediately. Labels and removes any malfunctioning equipment from service and notifies Engineering.

Follow through on adverse drug or blood transfusion reactions following established protocol.

Demonstrates compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures at all times.

Participates within Department of Nursing Service in establishing Standards of patient care both department and hospital wide.

Interviews, hires, schedules, orients, evaluates, counsels and terminates employees of the department.

Develops and monitors Department budget.

Supervise all staff in the provision of direct person patient care (ADLs).

Ensure staff knowledge of documenting variances.

Ensure staff evaluates discharge needs on admission assessment and continuous re-evaluation.

Initiates the establishment, implementation and achievement of unit goals and objectives.

Conducts staff meetings monthly and provides written minutes for staff.

Charges for charge items and procedures. Provides input for financial increases in supplies/procedures.

Supervises all staff in the provision of direct person patient care.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Working knowledge of Case Management and applicability of critical timelines preferred.

Knowledge of current Operating Room procedures and interventions.

Good understanding and application of the nursing process.

Three years’ experience in supervisory position required.

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a Masters` degree in nursing preferred.

Current California Registered Nurse license required.

Current BLS (CPR) certificate required.

CNOR certificate preferred.

ACLS required within 90 days of start.
