Corporate Actuarial Statutory Oversight (CASO) is seeking a Director to provide critical support to the Vice President & Actuary, CASO Statutory Standards and Governance. The primary responsibilities will be to oversee statutory reserve standards, reserve basis changes, nonguaranteed element oversight, and review of statutory methodology for actuarial models.  Additionally, this position will provide actuarial support to new product initiatives, including Principles-Based Reserve implementation and guidance on regulatory compliance.  CASO also provides assistance to the Valuation Center of Excellence for year-end filing.  This position will have exposure to all business units of the company as well as the Model Risk Management Governance (MRMG) area and the Emerging Issues unit within Corporate Actuarial.


CASO is a unit within Corporate Actuarial that collaborates with actuaries who support the business units, the Closed Block, and other corporate areas such as Controllers, Treasurers, and Government Relations.  CASO drives various high profile corporate endeavors related to statutory reporting that will provide the candidate with broad exposure to and a "big picture view" of the enterprise, including the opportunity to learn about and contribute to emerging corporate initiatives.


Responsibilities will include:


· Provide support for the monitoring of compliance with internal statutory standards; review them for possible enhancements.  This includes statutory margins, statutory approximations, minimum reserve standards, and aggregate sufficiency testing.


· Support the process of statutory reserve basis changes by working with the various Business Units requesting changes.  Coordinate Corporate Actuarial’s review of the changes.


· Oversee compliance of nonguaranteed elements and support illustration actuary tasks.  This includes preparing delegations between the Chief Actuary and Business Unit actuaries, and review of the Actions Taken Memos, NGE & Schedule M opinions, and Illustration Actuary filings.


· Obtain Valuation Certificates and file Appointed Actuary Change.


· Provide oversight for CASO on statutory methodology for model governance, working with MRMG on model affirmations.




·    Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).

·    Knowledge of statutory reporting concepts and familiarity with related year-end filings.

·    Ability to partner effectively with colleagues across the business units and corporate areas.

·    Ability to quickly learn about Prudential’s product lines and new regulatory initiatives.

·    Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to create a project plan and meet project due dates.

·    Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·    Highly motivated, conceptual thinker who is able to work independently or in a  team.

·    Ability to keep supervisor informed of project progress and meet project due dates.
