The Valuation Center of Excellence (COE) for the Individual Life business is seeking a Director & Actuary to support Statutory, FAS 60 GAAP, and Tax financial reporting and analysis.  We are looking for someone with strong leadership abilities who can help improve existing processes as well as influence and incorporate process changes, especially as we continue efforts to align Legacy Hartford and Pru valuation and reporting processes and begin to align reporting processes across the Valuation COE.  The candidate should have strong analytical and communication skills in order to evaluate, understand and communicate drivers of financial impacts to senior management.


The candidate will be expected to collaborate with senior leadership from a wide array of functions, including Finance, Valuation, Modeling, Reinsurance and Corporate Actuarial.  Upcoming projects include FASB Targeted Improvements, tax reform implementation, valuation of new products and the creation of insightful analytics.



  • Perform analysis of Statutory, GAAP and Tax financial results
  • Evaluate and implement regulatory changes and assumption updates
  • Develop management exhibits and insightful analytics
  • Research any issues related to reported results or calculation procedures
  • Maintain appropriate controls; address any control weaknesses; ensure compliance with corporate standards
  • Maintain and continue to improve procedures and tools, partnering with the Actuarial Modeling COE and other areas as appropriate
  • Influence the integration of Legacy Hartford and Prudential processes
  • Manage a small team of associates





  • FSA or ASA designation
  • 7 years of actuarial experience
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Statutory, Tax and GAAP valuation methodologies
  • Ability to partner effectively with colleagues across business groups, Finance, and corporate areas
  • Highly motivated, conceptual thinker who is able to work independently or in a team and take a leadership role in a wide variety of assignments
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of individual life products preferred
  • Experience with PolySystems is a plus
