Business Office Manager

Gulfport Behavioral Health System is currently seeking a Business Office Manager to supervise the day-to-day coordination of cash collections, aging, reporting and collection of all accounts receivable; creating, maintaining and enhancement of patient accounting systems; eventual billing of all patient accounts in a timely and efficient manner. Essential Job Duties:

  • Accomplishes cash collection goals as outlined by Administration.
  • Maintains AR days within guidelines established annually.
  • Monitors unbilled days and communicates with other departments as necessary to achieve established goal.
  • Maintains bad debt expense at or below the target set by Administration.
  • Monitors collection activity by reviewing accounts and reports on at least a weekly basis.
  • Reviews unbilled accounts daily and communicates with appropriate personnel to resolve problem accounts.

 

 

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Education: High School graduate or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in health care collections or related field, or any combination of education, training, or experience in a health care business office environment.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and interpersonal skills reflective of facility mission statement and philosophy.
  • Maintains a neat, professional appearance consistent with the facility’s dress code.
  • Action plan goals are relevant to service excellence standards.  Staff has met action plan goals. 
  • Complies with facility, departmental, safety, and human resources policies.
  • Meets with CFO and CEO to review bad debt / indigent accounts as appropriate, making recommendations as to collectibility.
  • Maintains a relationship with facility’s collection agencies to ensure accounts are being worked appropriately.
  • Ensures financial audits are performed on at least 10% of admissions each month.
  • Reviews credit balances on a monthly basis ensuring patients are refunded properly.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of reimbursement issues to provide technical support to staff.
  • Develops policies and procedures for department operations.
  • Performs annual evaluations on a timely basis.  In addition, meets with employees throughout the year providing constructive feedback about performance.
  • Provides for periodic training related to job duties both internally and externally, as appropriate.
  • Handles patient complaints concerning their account in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Co-ordinates with other departments in a positive manner using expressions that promotes respect, understanding, and co-operation.
  • Attend and actively participate in 90% of department head meetings.
  • Represents the facility in a manner that conveys a professional, courteous, caring, and cooperative attitude.
  • Is knowledgeable of Service Excellence and treats all patients/staff with dignity and respect in a consistent manner at all times.
  • Understands the need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, families, visitors, employees, and all other contacts.
  • Exhibits excellent service excellence skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, visitors, families, and referral sources. 
  • Utilizes an open, non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, professional, and therapeutic approach to treatment with all patients.
  • Promotes a safe work environment for self, patients, and coworkers by complying with environment of care, safety, and infection control and universal precaution guidelines
