*Role Description*

Reduce to practice the strategic vision of bringing first in class oncology therapies to the clinic and of significantly improving probability of success across the portfolio. Design and implement a strategy to direct cancer systems biology efforts for drug discovery programs.Reports to CSO for Tumor Cell Biology (TCB). Interacts with Medicinal Chemistry, Oncology Business Unit (OBU) and scientists across Oncology Research Unit (ORU) and Worldwide R&D organization.



*Responsibilities*

*Build and lead a team of scientists dedicated to Cancer Systems Biology, Target Validation and Drug Discovery in collaboration with partner lines*Dovetail chemical biology, genetics, molecular profiling and computational biology discovery strategies for parallel development of targets together with their biological and pathophysiological context to advance small molecule portfolio *Identify, develop, and manage external collaborations with world class experts to advance our competitive advantage in improved target validation and drug discovery*Participate in nomination of productive targetable biology downstream of chemical biology and systems biology discovery strategies*Partner with expertise across WRD to productively integrate data/information that enhances understanding of target biology*Ensure scientific rigor across team and focus resources towards TCB and company goals*Contribute to building a culture that embraces continuous learning and improvement, increasing technical skill base and disease biology expertise; take a proactive role in personal growth and scientific developmentSupervision:*Direct supervision of lab leaders and scientists in the Cancer Systems Therapeutics group*Management of external collaborations



*Qualifications*

*PhD or MD/PhD plus post-doctoral training in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Systems Biology, Genetics, (or a comparable biological science) with a cancer-related focus*Deep and broad knowledge of targets and pathways of importance to cancer biology*Established expert in signal transduction; with deep understanding of challenges and opportunities associated with the current discovery landscape*Knowledgeable in mechanism of drug resistance; highly familiarized with design of drug combination studies; tumor heterogeneity, tumor/host interactions*Expertise in advanced in vitro and in vivo models; good understanding of relevant methodologies*Effective manager of scientific teamsPrior Experience Preferred:*At least 12 years' experience working primarily on cancer biology*At least 8-10 years' experience in industry or academic lab focused on target validation, drug discovery and development*Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and manage successful external collaborations*Excels in a transdisciplinary team environment; excellent communication skills*Demonstrated success in designing and implementing competitive strategy*Track record of innovation - designing and delivering novel solutions to challenging problems*Track record of productive mentorship
