The Director, Client Management serves as the senior - level liaison between OptumRx and the State Staff, Board of Administration and Public agencies.  You will be responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of multiple internal departments to deliver best - in - class service to our client.  You will serve as the Manager of the account facing team responsible for ensuring compliance with the client’s contract and Medicare Part D compliance, relationship development and client satisfaction.  As the strategic relationship manager you will be responsible for client revenue retention and growth. You will manage the team assigned to the State client and be responsible for the development, coaching and HR related functions specific to managing this team.  This position requires a high - performing individual with proven leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of the PBM environment, broader healthcare system and government contracting.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manages an assigned Government account and account team with a focus on client trend management, strategic plan development and execution, cultivating multi - level client relationships and may manages staff, both direct and indirect
  • Provides expert advice and analysis of proposed Federal and State legislation that may impact the pharmacy benefit
  • Manages client contract renewal activities with the primary goals of retaining client, obtaining multiple year agreements and maintaining or improving profitability
  • Accountable for understanding the primary business objectives of the client, developing and managing shared goals, and demonstrating program value to the client
  • Understands OptumRx product and service offering, and can articulate the operational, clinical and financial value of our programs to the client across multiple stakeholders with the goal of deploying new programs and services
  • Maintains consistent and regular client communications
  • Leads the team with preparing and presenting regular client performance reviews and formal presentations to the Board, Board Committees, Public Agencies and workgroups.  Topics may include identification of cost drivers, recommendations for cost savings opportunities, utilization and cost reports, and OptumRx industry news.  Leads the team in organizing and conducting Quarterly Business Reviews with the client based on the client requested agenda
  • Prioritizes and conducts regular on-site client meetings as appropriate to proactively review team performance, client benefits, drug utilization and trend management strategies
  • Responds to all electronic, phone, facsimile or letter inquiries from the client’s staff within twenty - four hours of receipt or two hours for urgent inquiries
  • Maintains a complete understanding of client contract terms including the reporting of performance guarantees and managing service improvements. Ensures that all assigned contracts are monitored and reported as stated in the terms
  • Documents all client related activities as directed into the approved documents and or application
  • Manages and mentors account management team members. Specific topics may include the creation and delivery of client presentations, upsell techniques, implementation activities and daily client interaction. Provides staff with feedback at least quarterly on the level of accomplishment of personal and departmental goals.  Develops strategies for staff development and retention
  • Participates in recruitment activities for prospective team members
  • Establishes multiple corporate relationships and participates in client sponsored events/charities as appropriate.  Cultivates in-group growth through these relationships
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and developments and demonstrates strong communication skills in presenting these to Client, Board of Administration and Key Stakeholders.  Demonstrates expertise in pharmacy benefit strategies and OptumRx clinical programs
  • Provides leadership to client services team members in departmental and corporate initiatives
  • Provides regular feedback to management team regarding client metrics, client requirements and business development opportunities
  • Regularly attends and actively participates in company meetings as requested
  • Exhibits compliant and ethical behavior in the performance of job responsibilities, including complying with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, OptumRx Code of Conduct, Business Ethics Policies and Procedures and other policies and procedures applicable to position
  • Actively participates in OptumRx’s Compliance and Ethics Program, including attending annual compliance and ethics training and reporting suspected violations of the law or OptumRx’s policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet corporate objectives
