Description ROLE SUMMARY

• Applying an in-depth scientific understanding of biopharmaceutical research and development to analyze the competitive environment. The CI Director will proactively and independently engage key stakeholders to address Competitive Intelligence needs for discovery and early clinical development programs in alignment with Worldwide R&D strategic priorities

• The role will involve close collaboration with CI colleagues working in the post-POC arena

• The CI Director will undertake research on complex questions, gather and analyze data and turn these data into insights and/or recommendations that can be used directly by leadership. Clearly communicating and defending viewpoints in writing and orally is essential to success

• Key to success will be the ability to rapidly comprehend and articulate how competitive threats and opportunities may impact R&D programs and enterprise level strategic objectives

• Executive presence to enable effective thought partnership with key stakeholders is also essential


+ The CI Director will be required to translate raw competitive intelligence into strategic insights by identifying and integrating a full spectrum of information sources, and extracting signals and themes in the context of Pfizer business needs including executive decision making, strategic planning, portfolio management, and business development.

+ For assigned stakeholders and R&D project teams the CI Director will monitor the competitive environment on an ongoing basis, formulate hypotheses and proactively bring forward well synthesized competitive insights of strategic relevance.

+ The CI Director will actively collaborate with SPINE Strategy leads on WRD and Enterprise level projects that require competitive intelligence input.

+ Assist clients and team members in defining and clarifying key intelligence topics and questions of greatest relevance

+ Leverage all available intelligence resources to address key topics and questions at level of depth appropriate for project and within specified timeframe

+ Within assigned therapeutic areas the CI Director will proactively assess the competitive landscape and maintain a current awareness of competitor programs and assets.

+ Proactively prepare objective Competitive Assessments of drug development programs and be prepared to defend ratings of competitive position in support of governance body decision making

+ Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake research on complex questions, gather and analyze data and turn these data into a succinct response and/or recommendation that can be used directly by leadership. Clearly communicating and defending viewpoints in writing and orally is essential to success.

+ As requested the CI Director will also participate in collaborative CI Community of Practice projects


+ PharmD, PhD or Advanced scientific degree

+ 5+ years of Biopharmaceutical R&D experience with 2+ years in Competitive Intelligence capacity or similar degree of experience as consultant or Equity Research analyst in life science arena

+ Demonstrated ability to synthesize, analyze and communicate complex information succinctly

+ Ability to generate and test hypotheses related to competitor activities and industry trends

+ Understanding of competitive landscape of biopharmaceutical industry and investor analytics

+ Experience using information databases and intelligence gathering resources

+ Knowledge of drug development process and understanding of portfolio performance measures

+ A track record of individual contributions as well as the ability to work in a team environment
