Role Summary

The Director, Curriculum Development leads the design, development, evaluation and maintenance of learning solutions for the organization.    Reporting to the Executive Director- Learning Operations, this role leads a team of instructional designers and curriculum program managers in the design and development of a variety of instructionally sound, performance-based learning products that enable delivery of the Cox Experience and achievement of business goals. This leader collaborates with TMD partners in Learning Strategy to identify innovative approaches to learning and development that achieve time-to-proficiency gains and create sustainable knowledge acquisition and skill building. This role is responsible for sourcing curriculum projects through internal team resources as well as with vendor partners. This role has responsibility for managing project based budgets, design and implementation of a curriculum maintenance strategy, as well as process and procedures for efficient and repeatable curriculum development practices.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

• Leads a team of Instructional Design professionals to design instructionally sound, performance based learning solutions using industry standard methods

• Collaborates with Learning Strategy partners in the identification of innovative and effective learning solutions for functional audiences, identifying opportunities to leverage solutions across the enterprise

• Establishes practices and processes for consistency and quality across the curriculum development function

• Works with the Director, Learning Operations and Administration to ensure projects are well represented in the pipeline, team alignment with business project management and timely updates to project plans

• Leads the design and development of learning via a variety of delivery modalities (e.g. classroom, elearning, virtual classroom, podcast & other formal and informal vehicles) for various types of content to include product knowledge, technical, applications, process and behavioral skill development

• Identifies preferred vendor partners for specialized curriculum needs and/or staff augmentation managing project spend against budget and reporting regularly to business stakeholders and learning strategy partners

• Establishes an assessment strategy for the development of curriculum to ensure compliance, effectiveness and consistent quality of the learning experience

• Gathers volume forecast information in order to identify and support resources needs.

• Leads the design and collaborates on the implementation of trainer qualification and certification programs to support curriculum

• Leads the design of a virtual classroom delivery approach for curriculum development

• Collaborates with learning strategy to define evaluation plan for analyzing and reporting on impact of training solutions on business results

• Researches current trends in curriculum development, and implements innovative and effective solutions

• Designs and implements a sustainable maintenance strategy with communicated Service Levels

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% travel


Skills and Qualifications Required

• 10 years’ experience in Curriculum Design and Development

• Minimum five years’ experience leading a team of curriculum developers

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing eLearning solutions

• Formal knowledge of instructional systems design methodology and industry recognized methods of evaluation of learning

• Strong performance consulting skills

• Proven ability to deliver curriculum development solutions in a fast-paced business environment.

• Proven results with strategic thinking, creativity, and deployment of training initiatives linked to business outcomes

• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills

• Strong knowledge of PC desktop packages (preferably Microsoft Office) with strong Excel skills

• Proven ability to work efficiently, effectively, and proactively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, dynamic and virtual environment

• Proven ability to work in a cross-organizational team environment collaborating with the business leads on key deliverables pertaining to business readiness and specifically in support of training

• Experience with Curriculum development tools examples include: Information Mapping, Captivate and other related tools


• Masters’ Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or related field strongly desired

• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

• Experience designing solutions for Call Center, Retail & Sales audiences strongly desired

• Experience designing solutions for virtual classroom delivery

• Experience in the telecommunications industry

• Experience with Learning Management systems
