Work within UnitedHealth Group External Affairs to make an impact in the communities we serve by engaging and activating employees. This position reports to Vice President, Employee Engagement and will lead and support key External Affairs initiatives through strategic collaboration internally and externally. The role includes employee engagement, program management and development, relationship management, and program analysis. The successful candidate will play a key role on a high-functioning, close-knit External Affairs team, working within a dynamic and highly successful Enterprise.

 
Primary Responsibilities:
Communications
  • Develop innovative and effective strategies to drive awareness and participation in employee programs including the employee giving! program, United for Better Health grassroots platform and UHG Political Action Committee (PAC)
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues across the businesses (UHC and Optum), Corporate Communications and Corporate Marketing to engage employees with unique tactics and efforts
  • Generate internal and external visibility of UHG employee engagement activities and impact
Program Management
  • Program management including implementation and oversight of key strategic employee involvement initiatives
  • Collaboration with External Affairs colleagues to share best practices, identify opportunities and engage employees in programs, activities and initiatives
  • Innovations and enhancements to employee programs and platforms
  • Identify opportunities and develop and execute initiatives based on research and data
  • Measurement and reporting on key milestones and deliverable
Internal Client Relationship Management
  • Account / relationship management with key internal clients and partners
  • Partner with internal businesses to identify and create opportunities to engage employees and increase participation in programs (giving!, UHG PAC and United for Better Health)
  • Serve as a trusted partner to colleagues and the business segments, adding value and driving projects to achieve goals
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8 or more years experience in community affairs, employee engagement, or business management
  • Account management and relationship development experience (internal and external)
  • Excellent program management skills including development of strategic initiatives, active management and execution
  • Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint / Word / Excel) experience
  • 5 or more years experience presenting to groups and or teams

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with proven track record of executing campaigns and tactics
  • Proven capability to work on high-profile issues and demonstrated experience successfully working with executive leadership. Ability to gain credibility and be seen as a resource to leaders
  • Operate with discipline and urgency. Manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in teams and to lead through influence, rather than direct reporting relationship
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) skills in both formal and informal settings
  • Ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity
