Our Opportunity:
Global Design is the new strategic function at PepsiCo aimed at creating value across the enterprise by leveraging the power of Design. The Nutrition Design team within Global Design translates the business's top nutrition priorities into design strategies, consumer experiences, and product concepts that are relevant and scalable globally.

We are looking for a new style of leader to embolden and accelerate innovation, a Design Innovation leader who will oversee some of our most important initiatives and help grow our design specialty areas; business design, product design, packaging design, and physical space design. While you will be responsible for your own core team of industrial designers, you will also connect with, and lead, brand designers on a project-by-project basis. As such you need to be capable of identifying and pursuing diverse innovation opportunities and prove capable of leading cross-disciplined design teams.

The position calls for an innovative leader that will embolden and accelerate our ability to innovate. To dive into a range of large and small projects and to champion design innovation across the nutrition organization. Responsible for all aspects of the front-end design process, you will be fueled by imagination and creativity, and love the challenge of creating what has not yet been imagined. Working across an array of brands and consumer categories including; beverage, food, and sport. The project challenges will span consumer-focused innovation, new product development, and product design. As such the position requires experienced creative leadership and a passion for taking on unique and complex challenges.

Responsibilities:
The person in this role will be accountable for supporting the development and delivery of a wide range of innovation projects. S/he will need to help deliver projects from initial ideation and concept development, and support pilot and commercialization efforts:

  • Partners with marketing innovation, consumer insights, brand managers etc. to develop new design platforms grounded in consumer insights and leverages technology and trends to create new sources of growth. This includes working with business partners to properly scope, brief, and plan innovation projects that may include concepts for new food/beverage products, services and experiences, or new business ecosystems.
  • Provides leadership and content development for cross-functional teams in the front-end innovation process and activities (across observation, analysis, directions, ideation, concept refinement) that will lead to strong and high-quality outputs and concepts.
  • Has the ability to visualize design platforms / products and can effectively leverage design tools (e.g. sketching, prototypes, video etc.) to bring their vision/recommendations to life.
  • Creates strategic framing for initiatives and projects, ensuring that future products/portfolios/platforms are aligned with business and brand objectives
  • Should have experience with qualitative and quantitative design research, and experience in conducting ethnographic research, creating methodologies, and planning.
  • Able to lead and work hands on to develop innovation opportunities, design new products, and develop day-to-day design projects. Including structural packaging design, product design, and physical space design.
  • Able to plan and facilitate workflow based on business prioritization
  • Has experience in developing iterative prototypes and pilot design experiences.
  • Influences with strong character as a cultural steward, providing clarity and direction in a fast moving culture.
  • Must be an articulate communicator comfortable in communicating and defending brave ideas, enrolling business partners, mentoring design advocates, and presenting to high-level stakeholders.
  • Must be a motivating leader who can shape and strengthen our design innovation capability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Masters preferred
  • 10+ years of Design Strategy and Design Innovation experience
  • Proven ability to communicate with both marketing and R&D organizations
  • A creative problem solver and dot connector
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work in dynamic work environment
  • Can build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and project leads
  • Prior Global Experience preferred
  • Prior Supervisory Experience preferred
