The Premier Account Group Underwriting Director, will be responsible for leading a regional team responsible for the risk assessment and financial underwriting for employer groups ranging from 100 -5,000 employees.   They will be accountable for the team’s performance and results, including meeting revenue, persistency and profitability targets.  The Director effectively uses strong organization, leadership and superior technical skills to develop the staff’s underwriting and business acumen.  


Responsibilities will include:   

  • Daily leadership and oversight of a Premier Account case region, including managing workflow, case assignments and staffing

  • Accountable for developing and supporting a culture of high performance and talent excellence , through effective recruiting, coaching and development of staff

  • Facilitate and develop strong pricing, risk selection, and decision making across regional portfolio of risks.

  • Accountable for actively monitoring both financial and process execution performance and providing clear feedback, direction, and training as needed to improve consistency and quality of performance throughout the team.

  • Actively participate in cross functional strategy meetings to define and create organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with partners across functional lines to meet organizational objectives.   Frequent interaction with other Underwriting teams, Distribution, Actuarial, Claims and other functional and control units. 

  • Support and/or lead cross functional initiatives and projects




  • Strong technical background in group insurance life and disability underwriting (10 years)
  • Strong management/leadership skills, with an emphasis on talent management, process improvement and control activities. 
  • Ability to influence culture and drive desired outcomes.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to clearly articulate objectives, strategies and decisions to varied audiences.
  • Possess good organizational, presentation and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft WORD, Access, and Power Point
  • Excellent EXCEL skills
  • Resourcefulness, flexibility and creativity
  • Ability to generate creative solutions; proactive problem solver
