Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the HR Vice President of Learning and Development, the Director of Learning Design and Development is responsible for the design and development of enterprise learning solutions for The Home Depot. This includes, but is not limited to, ILT/VILT, synchronous/asynchronous eLearning, mobile, and print-based delivery systems. The Director, Learning Design and Development will lead the instructional design of learning solutions that build associate capability. The Director will also lead an evidence-based COE, drawing on sound instructional design principles, business requirements, and data analysis to design and develop world-class learning solutions that support our strategic objectives and drive performance excellence.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead a team of learning professionals accountable for overall planning, design, development, and effectiveness of learning solutions
  • Build exceptional performance-based learning solutions which support business needs
  • Collaborate across the organization on various strategic learning initiatives
  • Establish high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency
  • Ensure ongoing standards for content design and development
  • Provide thought leadership to the areas of next-gen learning methods
  • In collaboration with Managers of Learning Design, plan and manage multiple, complex learning projects
  • Foster a culture of learning innovation and excellence

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • Typically reports to Human Resource Vice President.
  • Direct and indirect reports

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Typically requires overnight travel up to 10% of the time.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
8 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Human Resource Development, Organizational Behavior and Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, or related field
  • At least 5 of the years in a strategic leadership role
  • Experience creating training for retail organizations
  • Creative visionary with a passion for learning and professional development and the ability to clearly articulate ideas and concepts
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement
  • Instinctive collaborator with strong staff management experience who values teamwork and the input of others
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to understand the big picture
  • Advanced knowledge of project management principles and MS Project
