Job Description

Cedar Hills Hospital - located just 15 minutes from downtown Portland - is an 89-bed, free-standing psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health and chemical dependency care. We provide a wide range of services and programs that offer evidence-based treatment proven to have positive outcomes for our patients. Our inpatient and outpatient services offer supportive and compassionate care through specialty programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our patients.

The Director of Assessment and Referral is responsible and accountable for directing the assessment and referral activities at the inpatient hospital. As a clinician, this position provides direction to a staff of assessment counselors and nurses in the provision of psychiatric assessment services, including clinical evaluations, nursing assessments, crisis intervention, and referrals to external providers. This position interfaces closely with the medical staff, nursing staff, fellow department heads and administration, external case managers, referral sources, managed care organizations, and functions as a liaison with hospital emergency departments. This position also oversees the hospital’s inpatient receptionists.

Job Requirements
  • Education:  Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, in Social Work or a clinical related mental health field preferred.
  • Experience:  A minimum of five (5) years direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting desirable.  Working knowledge of the Addiction & Recovery field and experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities, and working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
  • License: Program Therapist I must possess a state license within two years of employment and the Program Therapist II must be state certified in social work or clinical related mental health field.
  • Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR certification, Crisis Management and Service Excellence training must occur within 90 days of employment and prior to assisting in any restraining procedures. Must be able to pass a competency exam for the area upon hire.  May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
