Position Summary:

Fremont Hospital is a 148 bed acute psychiatric hospital situated in the heart of the bay area in the city of Fremont. We are the largest freestanding psychiatric hospital in the East Bay filled with diversity and the feel of a close knit community. Fremont Hospital strives to be an integral part of the community, continually expanding our efforts to serve the psychiatric needs of adolescents and adults.

We currently seek an experienced Director of Business Development to fill our open position. POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Business Development, as an essential member of the senior management staff at Fremont Hospital, is responsible for directing the development and coordination of the business development plan for the hospital. Consulting with the Chief Executive Officer and other senior management staff at the hospital, this incumbent designs, develops, implements and directs the business development strategic goals, philosophy, policies, procedures, and systems for the Business Development Department and the facility. The incumbent actively engages in community outreach to ensure proper implementation of the Business Development Strategic Plan. This position is also responsible for managing and supervising the Business Development Team.

 

Business Development Planning
1. Direct the development and continuous refinement of the area’s comprehensive business development plan, within the scope of the changing health care environment.
2. Consult with the CEO and senior management staff in overseeing, developing and implementing facility business development strategies.
3. As a member of Senior Management at the hospital, participate in management meetings and committees.
4. Contact and make face to face community visits as necessary, required and/or requested, as well as routinely schedule field visits with primary account clients that interact within
the hospital’s behavioral health market, contract with the hospital or have potential
business opportunities for the facility.
5. Continually evaluate thru contacts described in #4 above the effectiveness of the coordinated business development performance against market constraints and changes, and revise the business development plan as appropriate.
6. Assist in the preparation of both short-term and long-term Strategic Plans for the market and each hospital.
7. Maintain business development referral admission records and statistics, including the preparation of business development reports and materials.
8. Target and create new strategies for increasing business in a highly competitive market.
9. Coordinate the development and maintenance of accurate collateral information, including brochures and fact sheets.
10. Develop managed care strategy, including annual HMO/PPO and County rate increase targets and contract terms. Negotiate and manage payor contracts for the hospital.
11. Develop and implement community workshops and seminars, held at the facility or in the community.
12. Direct and coordinate all media relations functions.

Business Development Administration
1. Develop a business development focus and develop strategic plans.
2. Evaluate and prioritize referral sources and coordinate account management throughout the market.
3. Supervise the Business Development team. Coach staff through mentoring and modeling on effective business development styles and techniques.
4. Define goals, objectives and programs for the business development team, relating to the market and facility’s goals and objectives.
5. Coordinate business development meetings to stimulate and encourage the business development team to reach the facility’s goals.
6. Identify team strengths and weaknesses and implement measures to improve performance.
7. Maintain the business development budget and recommend cost saving measures to the operation’s department.
8. Keep the CEO fully informed of all personnel matters and other requirements for the smooth and efficient functioning of the Business Development Department.

Training
1. Monitor the ongoing educational needs in the areas of customer service, telephone techniques, account management, time management, and business development strategy development at the functional level. Conduct or coordinate training as indicated.
2. Conduct workshops in business development techniques for the business development team.

 
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral health area, marketing, business administration or related field or equivalent of 4+ years of work experience.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years experience in a health care business development management position with extensive business development experience resulting in measurable results, preferred direct experience developing managed care with knowledge in the areas of capitation and at-risk areas. In addition, detailed knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency issues.

Licensure: Must have a valid driver’s license and have access to an automobile for business travel.

Additional Requirements: You may be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
