Position Summary:

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC, next to the Foggy Bottom metro. GW Hospital serves a diverse group of patients — from local residents to our nation’s leaders. As an academic medical center, GW Hospital has the resources and clinical expertise necessary to provide specialized, complex care. This expertise includes cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, women’s health, trauma, and advanced surgery including robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

The Director of Business Development will oversee all aspects of strategic business development including planning, opportunity assessment, implementation and measurement of success. They will identify opportunities for potential joint ventures, acquisitions, partnerships, & new product lines and create feasibility studies and business plans. They will lead development and implementation of hospital business strategy, including evaluating market dynamics, tracking service line performance and gathering competitive intelligence within healthcare industry in the region.



  • Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance or related field required
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in business development required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in acute healthcare setting strongly preferred


  • Expertise in strategic planning, business or new product development, project management, mergers and acquisitions
  • Experience with project/program development/management preferred
  • Strong analytical thinking, negotiation, communication and presentation skills required
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing significant program and facility investments to improve the strategic position of an organization
