**ROLE SUMMARY**



Reporting to the Head of External Science & Innovation this role is responsible for proactively supporting the SVP, ES&I in communications, messaging, development of the organization, and implementation of its strategy. In addition, the position will support the long term vision and mission of the organization.







The Director of External Scientific Affairs will work closely with the ES&I CSO as well as Heads of ES&I Strategy and Business Operations to enable effective cross-functional collaboration and communication, develop Operating and Business plans, as well as maximize the efficiency, effec ti veness, and produc ti vity of the Office of the ES&I CSO and the ES&I LT . The Director of External Scientific Affairs will enable the CSO to effectively communicate and ensure effective messaging to internal and external stakeholders.







The Director of External Scientific Affairs will also partner with the CSO and the ES&I LT on talent management and development, biannual GPM processes and colleague engagement surveys and action planning, and will also manage aspects of internal communication initiatives related to ES&I forums, culture, and creating processes for improved information flow.







In addition, the Director of External Scientific Affairs will drive ES&I external communications efforts positioning 'Pfizer as a Partner of Choice'. As part of this the incumbent will work across ES&I, BD, WRD communications, and other key Pfizer functions to ensure a coherent, systematic approach to external outreach.







**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**







+ Manage and oversee end-to-end planning of ES&I LT, Town Hall, and other departmental meetings (in close collaborations with Business Operations):



+ Plan and define meeting agendas



+ Coordinate pre-read and presentation materials



+ Plan and coordinate attendance of non-LT participants



+ Issue and track meeting agreements/action items



+ Optimize and focus time on the highest priority areas



+ Coordinate and develop materials (eg, slide decks, accompanying documentation, etc.) for internal and external presentations by the ES&I CSO (Scientific & Partnering Conferences, BoD/ELT/WRD LT/ES&I LT/Town Hall, etc.)



+ Manage internal communication across ES&I (news letters, town halls, , informal touch-ins, etc. with a focus on improved culture and communication/information flow) in close coordination with ES&I Business planning/operations



+ Optimally prepare the ES&I CSO for meetings and discussions within Pfizer (eg, WRD LT, ResCo, PCF, Site Visits) or externally (Board meetings, Scientific Advisory meetings, Interviews, etc.)



+ Help address and coordinate standing and ad hoc requests from various Pfizer stakeholders, (eg, CEO, Head of WRD, WRD LT, SPINE, RU/BU members, etc.)



+ Interface with and engage key stakeholders (e.g., WRD-LT members, WRD-LT Chiefs of Staff and other WRD/ES&I/RU/BU members, and Business line leaders) to manage and coordinate planning needs on behalf of the CSO



+ Partner with the Pfizer Communications team and ES&I Strategy & Business Ops to support planning and management of internal and external communications needs of the CSO, including press releases, media coverage, etc.



+ Partner of Choice: Work across ES&I, BD, WRD comms (under the guidance of the ES&I Head of Strategy and Operations) and ensure a coherent, systematic approach to external outreach.



+ Be responsible for development of content and messaging as relates to WRD partnering material such as WRD partnering brochure, WRD partnering website (in close coordination with ES&I Business planning)



+ Partner with HR to design and lead various development opportunities for groups, teams, and individuals in ES&I



+ Support the creation of annual ES&I goals and mid-year/year-end goals assessment



+ Develop strong understanding of our R&D strategy, pipeline and capabilities, and actively leverage this knowledge to inform priorities for ES&I LT of ECD activities



+ Be an objective sounding board.







**QUALIFICATIONS**







+ 10+ years of experience in the Biopharmaceutical industry; Robust understanding of biopharmaceutical industry, R&D processes, and the external and internal business environment



+ At a minimum MBA, MS/BS in a relevant discipline, or equivalent business experience; Previous strategy, consulting, financial analysis an advantage



+ R&D Operational and Business Line knowledge/experience an advantage



+ Experience with communication and change management (with both external and internal groups) desired



+ Scientific background and strong interest in learning more about our R&D strategy, pipeline, key assets and capabilities



+ Experienced in communicating and interacting with Senior Executive stakeholders



+ Strong interpersonal skills, organizational maturity and ability to develop a network of trusted relationships with peers and other stakeholders



+ Demonstrated ability to effectively (and efficiently) manage Projects/PMOs (project management offices)



+ High energy level, sense of urgency, creativity, decisiveness, ability to work hard and well under pressure



+ Demonstrated ability to influence without hierarchy across the organization



+ Commitment to leadership, diversity and talent development
