Director of Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing human resources support for the Gulfport Behavioral Health System, which includes recruiting for vacant positions, conducting general employee orientations, maintaining all personnel records and files, conducting employee benefits and savings plus enrollment meetings, responding to insurance and unemployment compensation correspondence, employment verifications and organizing all employee activities and in-services. This position reports to the CEO.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Directs the Hospital’s Human Resources programs and initiatives to include Recruitment and Retention, Performance Management, Training and Development, Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations, Employee Engagement and Recognition, Employee Safety and Wellness, Policy Development, Regulatory Compliance, etc.
  • Develops and maintains an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the ongoing development of a superior workforce
  • Serves as a member of the senior management team advising on Human Resources initiatives and adding value to the overall mission and direction of the Hospital
  • Establishes departmental goals, standards and procedures that align with the Hospital and company’s strategic direction
  • Hires, manages and encourages the ongoing development of reporting staff
  • Conducts a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices; Identifies areas of opportunities and implements process improvements as appropriate
  • Attract and hire talented individuals, continually monitoring staffing levels identifying recruiting needs, and developing new recruiting strategies and a talent pipeline
  • Continually track and analyze employee data, including recruiting time to fill, turnover, leave of absence, worker compensation claims, etc. and identify areas of opportunities and implement process improvements as appropriate
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Human Resources laws, regulations, and policies and procedures
  • Meet all Joint Commission, CMS, state and local regulatory requirements and present during audits and surveys
  • Gather, analyze and report monthly facility HR data to the Quality Council, Medical Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, Patient Safety Council, etc.
  • Lead the performance management process for the Hospital including providing training to management on delivery of performance management and ensure employee development plans are developed
  • Guide and mentor managers on employee relations and staff development and ensure appropriate corrective action with any personnel problems; conduct employee relations investigations and deliver corrective action, up to and including terminations
  • Manage the communication channel for the hospital ensuring the delivery of informative and timely communications to employees
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the FLSA, Wage and Hour, and DOL regulations that affect pay administration
  • Administer the Hospital’s benefits programs to include Health and Wellness, Worker’s Compensation, FMLA, etc.
  • Define all Human Resources training programs and provide necessary education and materials to employees including workshops, manuals, and handbooks
  • Deliver New Employee Orientation, Service Excellence, CPR and Handle With Care Training for employees as well as on-going staff development
  • Update and maintain all Human Resources’ confidential data to include personnel files, medical files, worker compensation, unemployment, etc.
  • Maintain and update all electronic employee records including Lawson, Healthstream, HR Smart, Sterling, E-Verify and other sites
  • Serve as the leader of Employee Council and Service Excellence Champion with the goal of continually improving the culture of the Hospital and promote a high level of employee engagement and moral
  • Serve as the facility Loss Control Manager through managing all Worker Compensation injuries, analyze and track patterns, serve as a liaison to the Corporate Loss Control Manager, and stay abreast of all Worker Compensation, OSHA, and safety laws and regulations
  • Serve as Hospital Corporate Compliance Officer including maintaining policies and procedures and investigating all corporate compliance complaints
  • Manage contracts with local colleges and universities who participate in the Hospital’s clinical rotation and/or internship programs, develop strong relationships with school coordinators, and track clinical rotations within the hospital



Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Minimum of ten years of dedicated leadership experience in Human Resources
  • HR Certification preferred.
