Description:
Prudential Financial is seeking a strategic Director of Internal Communications to drive the creation and execution of internal communication activities in support of Senior Leadership Team members who oversee the Distribution, Product, and Strategy & Marketing areas of Annuities. The role will report directly to the Vice President of Annuities Communications and Events and may be based in either Newark, NJ or Shelton, CT.
 
The Director of Internal Communications will be expected to serve as a trusted business partner who can provide a full range of executive communications support through effective, proactive relationship management. The role includes working closely with the Vice President of Annuities Communications and Events to deliver appropriate executive messaging and employee engagement communications that align with the Annuities communications strategy and business objectives.
 
The scope of work includes developing key messages and creating and implementing strategic communication plans that support business goals for the Distribution, Product, and Strategy & Marketing areas. It includes writing and editing executive messages, employee engagement communications, organizational announcements, presentations, speaking points, articles, scripts and project-specific communications as needed. It involves consistent participation and partnership with other members of the broader Annuities Communications and Events team.
  
Experience supporting senior leaders and delivering executive communications is critical to this role.  Extraordinary relationship management, verbal skills, written communication, project management, strategic thinking, proactive planning and content delivery are necessary for this position as well as the demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence others with or without direct authority.  Also important is the ability to be self-directed and build credibility as a proactive thought leader and trusted business partner. 
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively develop and execute effective communications strategies that support both revenue-generation and employee engagement objectives
  • Build collaborative working relationships with senior business leaders across Annuities
  • Produce a variety of materials including leader messages, articles, business unit announcements, executive presentations, employee meetings, speaking points and more
  • Be an integral and active participant on the Communications and Events team
  • Ensure messages are in alignment with corporate brand messaging
  • Serve as a trusted communications partner for senior leaders of the Distribution, Product, and Strategy & Marketing areas of Annuities

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • At least ten years demonstrated professional experience in corporate communications, setting internal communications strategy, creating and launching communication plans
  • Insurance industry or Financial Services experience preferred.  Carrier or broker experience a plus.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to connect business objectives and communications strategies
  • Experience in providing strategic communications counsel to senior executives and demonstrated courage to challenge positions, express unpopular views and influence outcomes
  • Team management experience
  • Strong interpersonal/listening and oral/written communication skills
  • Successful experience in managing and driving several projects simultaneously through completion in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience leading through organizational change
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all organizational levels
  • Strong professional copywriting and editing skills for a variety of audiences/media
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel to other business locations, including overnight stays, about 15%
