Valley Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented  Director of Music Art and Recreation (MART) Therapist to join our team!

Valley Hospital is built on three core principles, outstanding care, compassionate people and unparalleled service. We are a private 122 bed psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health care and chemical dependency counseling services.

The M.A.R.T. Director will be responsible to ensure the services and programs offered at the facility meet the needs of the community and the facility’s performance goals and objectives. Responsibilities include the overall administrative processes and management systems for all M.A.R.T. services offered at the facility, promotion and maintenance of a therapeutic environment within the delivery of M.A.R.T services, and development and implementation of M.A.R.T. clinical program

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:

1. Monitor and evaluate the services provided by all members of the M.A.R.T. Department

 2. Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgment in patients' physical and mental condition/needs.

3. Observe and document changes in patients' appearance, behavior, and ability to work towards treatment plan goals.

 4. Ensures assessment of all patients’ psychosocial, creative expressive, leisure and recreational skills development and deficiencies.

Treatment:

1. Represent the M.A.R.T. Department at the executive level and in consultation and collaboration with the CEO, and other Clinical Department Directors plan, develop and implement organized M.A.R.T. clinical services programs as part of the therapeutic environment.

2. Develop and organize M.A.R.T. programs of service based on specialized patient populations.

3. Maintain an awareness of community and market-related activities which includes knowledge of the activities of other providers, needs of local payers.

4. Provide a broad vision in the development of programs and the evaluation of current services offered. 5. Strategically solve problems that encompass the larger view of the organization, and establish goals by utilizing an understanding of organizational dynamics in planning and problem solving.

 6. Remain current on all Music, Art & Recreation Therapy approaches/ techniques, and provide direction to department staff and facility personnel.

 7. Participate in developing, justifying and controlling the annual budget for department personnel, facilities and equipment.

8. Ensure strategic program goals and objectives are consistent with overall facility goals and objectives. 9. Develop goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to the operational needs of the M.A.R.T. staff and patient care.

10. Consult with facility management in the development and facilitation of department services which assure an optimal therapeutic experience for all patients

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational, Art, Music, or Recreation therapy, or related therapeutic discipline; Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience: Three (3) years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and an understanding of mental illness, with a minimum of One (1) year supervisory experience and management experience preferred.

 Licensure: Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in of the following areas: art, occupational, recreation, or music therapy.

 Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) training prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 30 days of employment. Knowledge of TJC, CMS regulations as they pertain to provision of M.A.R.T. departmental services. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, and patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
