Job Description


The Director of Plant Operations plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls the activities of the Plant Operations Department, Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness to provide services, repairs and maintenance necessary to insure the safe and efficient operation of the hospital and to maintain a comfortable physical environment for patients, employees and the public, in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and practices set by the facility, the Oklahoma Department of Health and other regulatory local, community and governmental agencies.  This position also oversees construction/renovation projects.

Oversees the maintenance, and repair of hospital buildings, grounds, and utility systems.  Coordinates activities of department to ensure a continuous, safe, and efficient hospital operation with specific caution directed toward patient safety.  Directs completion and archiving of equipment, maintenance, emergency preparedness and safety documentation.  This includes assuring continuous maintenance of the Joint Commission Statement Of Conditions documentation.  Assists with facility planning, design, and construction in collaboration with consultants/design professionals.  Provides technical expertise and consultative services related to building systems/infrastructure for existing facilities and facilities under design.  Identifies and recommends facility improvement projects/priorities.  Serves as official custodian of department and records.  Prepares, monitors and reports on operational, staffing and capital expenditure budgets.  Employs, trains, promotes, evaluates, counsels and terminates individuals respecting established personnel policies.  Addresses and responds to facility concerns or grievances by patients, physicians and staff.  Recommends short and long-term goals, capital equipment and physical plan improvements.  Assures compliance and continuous survey readiness for regulatory and accrediting agencies for facilities, life safety, utilities management, and construction management.  This includes but is not limited to standards required by TJC, DHS, Fire Marshall, and state licensing agencies.  Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, local standards and codes, and requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies; standard operating procedures for plant operation; budget development, control and direction; personnel management; work standards for skilled personnel; material and equipment suppliers.

  • Able to plan, organize, and implement personnel training. Coordinates multiple tasks efficiently.  Demonstrates effective critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines regarding plant operations, personnel, training, and competency assessment.

  • Maintains professional relationships with staff, patients, families and visitors. Maintains cooperative working relationships external and internal customers. Able to effectively present information.  Able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Provides professional quality customer service.Acts as role model for employees and patients.

  • Able to provide leadership and supervision to maintenance staff and contract labor, to delegate responsibilities, make assignments, and monitor performance.



Bachelor’s Degree In Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management required or equivalent leadership and technical experience in related fields.



Hospital Facility Manager Certification preferred.  Current Oklahoma Driver’s License (Required for staff on Driver’s List).



Five years plant operations work experience and leadership experience in a psychiatric treatment setting.
