This high-profile position, Director of Public Affairsis responsible for developing plans and strategies that communicate the company’s positions on key government, regulatory, legal and compliance issues, mitigate the impact of a crisis event on the company’s reputation and promote the company’s High Speed Internet Service and Homelife products. 

Specific Duties:
  • Develop plans and strategies that communicate the company’s positions on key government, regulatory, legal and compliance issues for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and lead strategic plans to address complex crisis events that impact the company’s overall reputation among customers, potential customers, media, and government officials and regulators and serve as a company spokesperson during crisis events.
  • Develop and lead communications efforts during retransmission consent and programming contract disputes by leading cross-functional teams of corporate- and field-based public affairs, marketing, customer care, and operations personnel.
  • Develop plans and strategies that inform employees about public relations and public affairs initiatives and provide them with messaging and other tools to communicate with customers and members of the community with which they interact.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and field locations to create and maintain integrated internal and external communications plans with key functions such as Marketing, Customer Care, Programming, Legal, Product and Strategy, Operations, Field-based Public Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and State- and National-level Government Affairs.
  • Serve as strategic communications counsel for field-based Public Affairs teams.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to promote Cox High Speed Internet and Cox Homelife by developing and executing both external and internal communications plans and working with senior leaders and field-based PR teams to execute.  
  • Develop content as needed for product PR and internal product communications.  
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • On-call availability required.


  • The successful candidate will be an accomplished strategic communications professional with 10+ years of experience in a company with direct and business to business customers. 
  • The ideal candidate must have experience successfully managing a multi-regional organization during major crisis events. 
  • Candidate must possess strong emotional intelligence skills. 
  • Regarded as a proven and respected strategic communications consultant to key leaders within an organization and can influence the positions of senior leaders based on best practices in employee communications, product public relations and issues management. 
  • Candidate must possess knowledge and understanding of campaign development and execution. Experience in telecommunications industry preferred.
