Position Summary:


 The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a 385-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC, next to the Foggy Bottom metro. GW Hospital serves a diverse group of patients — from local residents to our nation’s leaders. The Director of Quality and Professional Development provides leadership and assumes ultimate accountability for department, implementation, and coordination of hospital quality improvement, professional development and education programs.  Ensures compliance with all regulatory guidelines and monitors quality improvement programs throughout the organization. Develops, maintains, and refines education and consultative programs that support consistent, evidence-based, outcome-focused, culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate care for patients across all clinical areas.



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's degree in related field
  • 5-8 years quality or related health care experience required, 10 years preferred
  • Experienced in the use of statistical, security adjustment and benchmarking software and databases.


  • Expertise in CPI & operational/process improvement.
  • Highly developed organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Expert knowledge of health and safety management strategies, quality assurance, quality improvement and continuous improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Expert working knowledge of systems theory and statistics. Expert knowledge of healthcare regulations, guidelines and standards.
  • Superior leadership and teaching abilities
  • Positive and effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead and facilitate group decision-making and conflict resolution
  • Excellent management and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem -solving skills
