Prudential Financial's Workplace Solutions Group (WSG) organization is actively seeking a Program Manager to manage a portfolio of initiatives associated with one or more Strategic Initiatives that have been identified as a significant growth driver for the company.  This position will report into the VP, Planning, Program Management & Resource Management, and will also have a dotted line reporting relationship to the VP, Product Management. The latter will be the owner of the pertinent Strategic Initiative.


The WSG organization is responsible for delivering on a portfolio of Strategic Initiatives aimed at creating significant growth for our business. This involves coordination and alignment of resources and deliverables within WSG as well as across WSG’s component Group Insurance and Retirement Business Units (BUs) and other Corporate and Business partners. The selected candidate will play a key role in enabling positive business outcomes and meeting customer expectations, as part of our mission to be an exemplary delivery organization. An ideal Program Manager candidate should have program/project management experience grounded in Product Design & Development initiatives, combining business process and technology acumen.  This role combines program & project management skills, expertise in navigating complex organizations, and the ability to quickly learn core business functions. The aim will be to deliver product solutions that will follow a rapid MVP (Minimum Viable Product) paradigm rooted in a combination of Agile and Iterative development lifecycles. This is a hands-on role and a successful candidate will be expected to be a strong, “in the trenches” driver of milestones and results, assertively surfacing and resolving conflicts and issues while consistently mitigating risks. While the technical aspects of the role e.g. Project plans, financial plans, risk plans, program level plans, and associated reporting elements are tablestakes, a successful candidate is expected to go above and beyond these artifacts, and assertively move the program/project forward within acceptable cost and quality parameters.


Works independently and receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for team members with limited experience or domain knowledge. Solves complex problems.  May travel up to 30%.


Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities:

Support the VP Planning, Program Management and Resource Management in proactively managing a portfolio of strategic projects.  Work includes creating project plans, identifying and resolving project issues, partnering with the product and technical teams to clearly understand the project needs, coordinating between various business and technical teams, ensuring established project management processes are followed. May also manage other less experienced Project Managers in both supervisory and mentoring capacities. A “Coaching Mindset” is required to effectively coach team members on Agile practices, both formal and informal.


  • 10 or more years of experience with project management methodologies combined with a technical background
  • Experience delivering projects over $2-3 Million in size and scope, preferably using Agile or Iterative lifecycles
  • Technical degree from 4-year university or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Agile SDLC, especially SCRUM methodologies is highly desired
  • Financial Services experience, across all application architecture tiers, rooted in contemporary technologies (Hybrid Cloud, DevOps-CI/CD, Hadoop etc) is a strong plus
  • Excellent collaboration skills to team up with partners in product, marketing, strategy, operations, architecture, corporate organizations, shared service teams and business teams
  • Experience working successfully with multiple key stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, schedule, and budget
  • Solid understanding of contemporary application component architectures and technologies
  • Strong ability to proactively manage risks, issues, and costs for each assigned initiative
  • Experience with compiling, managing and maintaining key documentation for project related artifacts
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt to change quickly and easily and an interest in analysis
  • Proficient in using MS Office products: Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and/or other Project Management tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate project needs and schedules to IT, business and other stakeholders
