The Culinary Solutions team supports the development and profitability of our retail sales in North America. The scope of the department includes the management of our existing internal brands as well as our key national partners, and the development of services and programs as identified by the Marketing Offer Board. The creation of promotions and limited time offers to support sales growth and profitability across all segments, as well as systems and processes to support deployment and the generation of data to track performance is also the responsibility of the team. Our overall approach to retail and service development is to deliver innovation to differentiate Sodexo in the marketplace.

The Director of Retail is a key position within the Retail Department in Culinary Solutions, and reports to the Head of Retail Excellence.

The Director of Retail leads the development and management of retail programs that impact the attainment of Segment sales & profitability goals and enterprise wide marketing initiatives. The retail programs are supported with tools and resources that contribute towards NorAm regional results The scope includes, but is not limited to NORAM cold beverage and snacking strategy (In The Zone), and the Mindful wellness program. These retails programs are already built and looking for an innovated person who can move these products forward to the next level. 

Responsible for managing direct relationships with key vendor partners, design agencies, Sodexo stakeholders and subject matter experts across multi-disciplines. Executes high impact projects as a person with strong project management background or has a PMP certification would be highly desirable. . Output will be used to support comparable unit sales growth and margin, as well as new sales and retention within business segments.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Directs and leads the management and optimization of the In The Zone program, as identified by Culinary Solutions priorities and Segment Marketing needs. This includes, but is not limited to, category optimization plans for Cold Beverages, Snacking, and Take Away. Also included is the supervision and planning of (1) the Retail Ranger tool development in collaboration with the Digital Development Team, (2) pricing of packaged goods optimization in collaboration with the Pricing Team and (3) the development and update of planograms in collaboration with the Category Development team.

Directs and leads the management of Mindful. Develops strategic plans to drive continuous improvement of brand positioning, sales and profitability, and B2C, B2B and B2O engagement. This includes leading Mindful’s culinary development, content marketing strategy (incl. social media platforms), celebrity endorsements,

Develops and implements a Retail Assortment Strategy to optimize revenue growth and profitability through menu optimization mechanics, menu cadence, day part targeting, on selling and upselling, effective merchandising, and consumer communication.

Supports the development of Retail Excellence programing and activities, including the integration of In The Zone and Mindful, but also ancillary programs such as small wares, packaging, uniforms etc.

Works closely with divisional marketing teams, Supply management and other stakeholders to ensure retail programs aligned to business & marketing strategy and engagement to attain objectives. Ensures communication of strategy, positioning and progress to stakeholder groups across Region

 Minimum Qualifications:

Understanding of retail business dynamics and consumer and industry trends is desirable

Proven ability to manage multiple projects with different stakeholders, leading cross functional teams, and delivering on time, on budget, and to specification.

Strong financial acumen and analytical skills

Strong presentation skills; able to present at Senior Leadership levels within the organization

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Strong listening and influencing skills gaining engagement of Senior Leadership

Project Management Background (PMP) Lean Six Sigma highly preferred


Bachelor’s Degree

6 to 8 years minimum management experience,  3 to 4 years experience in Retail, Marketing or related field preferred but not necessary

Experience in Fast Casual / Casual Dining, operations and/or marketing strongly preferred

This position will be based in Sodexo North American Head Quarters in Gaithersburg, MD


Position Summary

The Retail Director will plan and execute all retail operations within the region. This person will ensure that the retail operations provide both revenue growth and profitability growth. This person will direct all retail initiatives within the region and will contribute to the overall effort to retain accounts and add accounts. Determines the mix of national and in-house brands on each campus. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the company’s audit and survey processes and ensure that all units in the region consistently use and support these processes.



Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor's Degree
Basic Management Experience - 5 years
Basic Functional Experience - 5 years of experience in operations
