Our Distribution Sales Training team is seeking a high caliber Director, with strong influencing and exceptional leadership skills, to drive and innovate Prudential’s Group Insurance (GI) business sales training and transformational learning strategy.

As a key member of the Distribution Sales Training Organization, you will model the Prudential leadership competencies while maintaining highly credible, consultative and collaborative working relationships.  You will engage with key internal stakeholders not only across Group Insurance, but also with peers across the Prudential businesses and external vendors.


Who are we?

The Distribution Learning and Development team has recently embarked on creating the “next generation of learning” with the release of a new LMS system with innovative new media solutions, video curriculum capabilities, and video coaching.

We’re expanding our core curriculum, creating a new multi-year advanced professional development program to elevate talent throughout the sales organization, and championing new and creative solutions via our full video production studio and editing media center – and that’s just the beginning!


What part will you play?

You are responsible for shaping Prudential’s Group Insurance (GI) business sales organization’s professional development strategy and successfully executing on the multi-year professional development plan. The key objective is to elevate sales talent capabilities & drive career growth via a professional development curriculum and highly valued courses and content that measurably grow superior selling, coaching, sales management, and sales leadership skills.


The ideal candidate is:

A seasoned sales and client management training professional and a polished facilitator with a proven track record of 10 years of success in designing and delivering sales training, sales coaching, business and territory management skills, and professional development content within a business-to-business sales model; preferably with experience in a fast-paced sales and high customer engagement environment or

Seasoned sales, account executive or sales manager with an interest in bringing those skills into a sales training and professional development environment. The individual has polished presentation skills, exhibits executive presence, models highly proficient consultative behaviors and the ability to inspire and influence call to action through the effective use of insight and positioning.


The successful director in this role will excel in being a self-driven individual contributor that possesses the ability to self-manage multiple project deliverables that produce learning outcomes that may be designed, developed and/or facilitated either by the individual, in partnership with other Distribution L&D Team members, jointly with internal subject matter experts or outsourced to one or more vendors.


The Director is responsible for proactively consulting with a wide range of Group Insurance Distribution Sales Leaders, Sales Managers, HR, and other functional partners to identify selling skill gaps, create and enable professional development and training solutions that elevate sales performance through adoption of advanced-level selling behaviors, and build sales coaching capabilities to drive consistency and improve overall sales manager effectiveness.


The individual must quickly acquire a broad and functional expertise across the entire sales process and customer management process continuums. Learning solutions are delivered via a variety of mediums, classroom, virtual, web-based, video, and pod-casting and leverage both business-level and enterprise learning management systems. 


The Director must employ strong influencing skills and maintain highly credible and collaborative working relationships across the Distribution L&D team with two peer Directors, Sr. Instructional Design Specialists, Video Production & Graphic Design Experts and Learning Managers who will be contributing partners to the Professional Development Curriculum outcomes. The director must develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders not only across the Group Insurance organization but also with peers across the Prudential businesses and with external vendors.


The Director reports to the VP of Distribution Excellence, Learning and Development within the Distribution Strategic Partnerships and Distribution Excellence function within Group Insurance.


Location / Travel: 

Position based in the Roseland, NJ headquarters office (preferred) or Hartford, CT office.  Annual business travel 10-20% primarily to conduct regional training or vendor deliverables, and attend leadership or team-related meetings.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Consult with Distribution Sales Leaders, Sales Managers, HR, and other functional partners to identify selling skill gaps and improvement areas to elevate business/territory management skills and advanced-level sales behaviors.
  • Assess, scope, design, develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive professional development curriculum that delivers a diverse mix of learning solutions that meet business requirements and produces key success measures (i.e., assessments, 360 and manager feedback, and CRM performance data) that validate associate learning and acumen elevation targets are achieved.
  • Assess sales coaching areas for improvement; scope and create business requirements to create a customized sales coaching strategy, methodology and process that will improve coaching focus and consistency and improve overall sales manager effectiveness in elevating sales talent’s acumen across targeted skill areas.
  • Manage Professional Development Curriculum and annual delivery plan governance approval process
  • Accountable for vendor identification, engagement, governance, and ongoing relationship management for designing, delivering, and maintaining professional development curriculum annual plan deliverables within annual vendor budget requirements. 
  • Determine appropriate delivery approaches and methodologies (e.g., ILT, VLT, eLearning, WBT, podcasts, video)
  • Utilize project management skills to define and meet project milestones, communicate issues and risks in a timely manner, and escalate to senior management as necessary
  • Accountable for sustaining high level of acumen across the organization’s core product portfolio, distribution and sales processes, and value proposition; stay informed on industry trends, techniques of industry competitors, and on new and emerging practices and technology to drive innovative learning solutions.

  • 7 years of experience in a sales and account management corporate training environment or 10 years as a successful sales executive or sales manager in a B2B environment; financial services or group insurance, a plus
  • Polished presentation skills, exhibits executive presence, models highly proficient consultative behaviors and the ability to inspire and influence call to action through the effective use of insight and positioning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication, facilitation, and models listening (consultative) skills.
  • Proven success in establishing key relationships; fosters collaboration, engagement, and achieves alignment across a diverse range of stakeholders, business leaders, functional partners, and subject matter experts
  • Practitioner knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, assessment, learning solution mediums, curriculum development, learning management systems, and performance improvement methodologies
  • Self-manage small to large scale learning initiatives, use of Microsoft Excel for project management tracking and reporting; ability to create project dashboards, executive reports and summaries.
  • Accountable for ongoing personal development plan execution. Self-driven to develop a deep knowledge of the group insurance business and industry, and model organization’s culture and norms
  • Proficiency with Office 365, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word; basic knowledge of Visio, SharePoint, a plus
  • Proficiency in using virtual delivery platforms (e.g., WebEx, Saba Centra, GoToMeeting); Skype for business, a plus
  • Experience in working with CRM platforms and systems (e.g. for sales training purposes, a plus
  • Some experience with Adobe CC, Articulate 2.0, Captivate, and/or video editing software, a plus
  • Flexible work style, ability to handle a fast-paced environment with unexpected changes;
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
