This position requires a dynamic and visionary individual to drive pharmaceutical research through collaboration with diverse group of top-notch scientist in the leading pharmaceutical company.

The Comparative Medicine (CM) Director of Global Science and Technology (GST) will assure an overarching cross-site CM strategy that drives high quality in vivo pharmacology based science across all Pfizer sites to advance the Pfizer portfolio. The GST group is focused on providing support for preclinical efficacy and safety studies using translatable animal models and imaging technologies (Ultrasound, Optical imaging, Micro-CT and other modalities).

This role will lead scientific partnerships between GST scientists and their peers across research including Internal Medicine, Inflammation and Immunology and, Oncology. In addition, this role will work with scientists to drive CM investments strategies to validate and implement predictive animal models and technologies at Pfizer through internal and external collaborations.

The role will include leading a diverse team of scientists in a portfolio driven disciplines at East coast (Cambridge, Andover) and West coast (La Jolla) sites. The role will report into the Senior Research Fellow and have matrixed responsibilities to the CM Vice President (VP) and CM Executive Team (ET) to execute and evolve the 2 and 5 year CM Strategic Plans.

Therefore, this role offers numerous opportunities to excel in science, people management as business management. Some of the specific responsibilities include:

+ Achieve comprehensive understanding of Pfizer portfolio and the GST group's capabilities to effectively prioritize CM activities across all of the Pfizer sites

+ Champion CM's expertise in animal models and imaging modalities across research to drive quality decisions and accelerated development of differentiated medicines and vaccines

+ Lead a team of GST scientists and post-docs in a portfolio-driven disciplines to proactively develop skills and acquire technologies to better support the scientists

+ Provide budget oversight including the capital investment plans based on prioritization with research needs that are also well aligned with CM strategic imperatives

+ Responsible to drive efforts to build out and evolve the CM strategy and strategic frameworks for the 2 and 5 year plans in collaboration with key stakeholders across research

+ Orchestrate external and internal publications and presentation strategies for GST

+ Ensure development and succession plans for each scientist within GST

+ Exercise a visionary approach and partner with key stakeholders on innovation initiatives to ensure future growth of GST and timely investment in key technologies

+ Provide support for initiatives including implementation and success of post-doc and externship programs

Educational Background:

+ Advanced degree and technical knowledge in drug discovery relevant topic - D.V.M., M.D., Pharm.D., or Ph.D. in life sciences required

+ Demonstrated business experience in a variety of business models or frameworks or a MBA is preferred

Work Experience:

+ Good understanding of drug development, pharma R&D strategies, processes and operation

+ 10 years' experience in research setting with proven track record of active research through scientific publications, patents and meeting participation

+ Scientific leader with history in managing a productive animal-based research laboratory including PhD, technicians and post-doctoral fellows

+ Strategic thinker; strong analytical and problem solving skills and business acumen with proven track record of successful strategy development and implementation

+ Ability to lead complex matrixed teams and experience in working with/presenting to senior leadership

+ Well organized, creative, independent, self-motivated individual with exceptional presentation, written, and oral communication skills

+ Ability to lead/motivate others to maintain a high and consistent level of excellence in strategy development, project management and outcomes

**Preferred Qualification**

+ Knowledge of imaging modalities (Ultrasound, MicroCT, Optical imaging, PET, MRI)

+ Knowledge of technical skills (Image data analysis, Statistical analyses, Scientific writing)

+ Knowledge of assessing budgets and forecasting

+ 8 years direct experience working directly with a CM multidisciplinary team in the pharmaceutical industry

+ The United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards,

+ The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals,

+ Good Laboratory Practices, Public Health Service Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards
